Thailand’s new sensation, Weeraphat Noksan shocked his opponent in the afternoon session

Thailand’s Weeraphat Noksan is a new sensation in the pinweight (46kg) which he demonstrated at the ASBC Asian Junior & Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships in Al Ain today during the afternoon session.

Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Palestine, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Vietnam are the participating 26 nations in the event.

The 2008 and 2009 born boxers will be able to compete at the junior age group in Al Ain, UAE. Boxers who were born in 2010 and in 2011 will be eligible to participate in the schoolboys and schoolgirls competition.

India has strong traditions at the women’s junior pinweight (46kg) based on the previous ASBC Asian Boxing Championships. Their Joni had energetic attacks from the first seconds against Kyrgyzstan’s Perizat Zholchubekova and she finished the job still in the opening round after two quick standings counts.

Philippines sent a small team to this championship, but their new female sensation, Ermalie Caballero impressed in the first round against Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yu Jun at the women’s junior bantamweight (54kg). The young Filipina controlled the exchanges in the second round as well therefore Caballero advanced to the next stage of boxing in Al Ain.

Viktoria Rosetska joined the junior age group only this January but she won the prestigious Bornemissza Memorial Tournament in Hungary this May. The Ukrainian caught her Vietnamese opponent, Ho Thi Kim Trong in the first round with heavy jabs and she won their meeting by RSC at the bantamweight (54kg).

Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan has old rivalry in the Asian Championships and their first meeting was held between Alina Kudaigenova and Raykhona Tuychiboyeva. The first had better international pedigree from the past and she jumped into the best fighting distance to land her quick shots especially in the second round. Kudaigenova had a tight advantage on the judges’ scorecards after two rounds and the Kazakh worked hard in the last minutes to win their light welterweight (63kg) meeting.

The male junior pinweight (46kg) boxers are not only strong in the Asian continent but also in the entire world. One of the next hidden treasures, Kyrgyzstan’s Nursultan Duishonaliyev had the confidence to beat Nepal’s Chandan Shahi in the Round of 16. India’s next sensation, Aakash Bhadwar proved that he is a gold medal favourite in this weight class and he eliminated Tajikistan’s Azizjon Mamatgulov today.

Thailand’s Weeraphat Noksan is new in the international stage from Trang but he proved excellent footwork in the first round against Kazakhstan’s Yerassyl Maratov in the next pinweight (46kg) bout. The Thai moved back a few steps before his counter-punches and his right-handed jabs stopped the attacking Kazakh southpaw. The 16-year-old Noksan delivered one of the sensational performances of the afternoon session and he bowed out his Kazakh opponent.

Iran’s Mahdi Rouzbahani, who came from a strong and traditional boxing family, controlled all of the three rounds against Mongolia’s Bat-Orgil Batbayar at the pinweight (46kg). Chinese Taipei’s Kuo Yu Hsiang and Vietnam’s Dinh Van Vang shined in their recent national events and they planned to make a strong international exposure in Al Ain. The Vietnamese was quicker in the exchanges and he had the strength to beat his taller opponent from Chinese Taipei.  

Uzbekistan’s Khikmatillo Sobirov is a small boxer at the pinweight (46kg) but he has world-class footwork and technical skills. His opponent, Sri Lanka’s Binul Dulanda Dewasiri was brave but the Uzbek’s routine decided their Round of 16 contest in Al Ain. Kyrgyzstan’s Umar Orusbayev had also a competitive rival, Palestine’s promising Ahmed Ibaidou but he managed his pathway to the quarter-finals of the light flyweight (48kg).

Thailand’s Sorawit Chanthara is one of their best junior prospects who landed his strong right-handed jabs in the first round against Iran’s Sahand Najafi. The Thai light flyweight (48kg) talent received shots from the Iranian side in the second and only the third was decisive between them today. Najafi began the important last round better and four out of the five judges favoured him in this impressive contest.

Leo Mhar Lobrido won the schoolboys 46kg at the 2023 edition of the Palarong Pambansa National Tournament and he joined their junior national team this year. The Western Visayas boxer tried to reduce the fighting distance against Uzbekistan’s Elyor Rustamov in the first round but his Central Asian opponent was too smart. The Uzbek light flyweight (48kg) boxer had the best strategy in this preliminary contest to eliminate the 15-year-old Filipino.
