Thailand selected 12-strong team to the Southeast Asian Games
Thailand selected a 12-strong team to the upcoming SEA Games and the country is aiming for gold medals in Phnom Penh. The Southeast Asian Games will be held parallel with the IBA Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships and to be scheduled from May 6.
Thailand topped the medal standings of several of the Southeast Asian Games in the previous years and the country will fight for the No.1 position once again and in that mission, their main regional rivals are the Philippines and Vietnam. Thailand will be the next host of the next 2025 edition of the SEA Games in Bangkok, Songkhla and Chonburi.
The Thai women boxers impressed in all of the previous IBA and ASBC Championships, their best hopes earned medals and titles. The Women’s World Boxing Championships medallists as Jutamas Jitpong (54kg) and Janjaem Suwannapheng (66kg) will be there in the SEA Games as well. Joining them, the ASBC Asian U22 Champion and Tokyo Olympian Baison Manikon (75kg) is the third selected female boxer in the team.
The Thai male team contains nine boxers in the squad including several stars and young hopes. The World Boxing Championships bronze medallists as Thanarat Saengphet (51kg) and Weerapon Jongjoho (80kg) are member of the team. The reigning ASBC Asian Champions, Bunjong Sinsiri (67kg) and Jakkapong Yomkhot (86kg) also have been selected to participate in the SEA Games.
The further male team members in the SEA Games will be Natthaphong Thuamcharoen (48kg), the Asian Games bronze medallist Rujakran Juntrong (60kg), the World Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Somchay Wongsuwan (63.5kg), the Youth Olympic Games winner Atichai Phoemsap (71kg) and the newcomer Kitipat Prueksena (92kg).
