Thailand and India won the quotas in the evening session

The next two quotas have been decided in the evening session of the sixth competition day at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China today.

Thailand’s technician Chuthamat Raksat eliminated a top opponent in the previous stage, and she was confident against Tajikistan’s Rukhafzo Khaknazarova in her key quarter-final at the women’s light flyweight (50kg). The 30-year-old Thai is in fantastic shape and she had the speed to catch the younger Tajik in all of the three rounds. Raksat not only advanced to the semi-finals in Hangzhou but she qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

India’s Nikhat Zareen won already two contests in the Asian Games and the two-time World Champion met Jordan’s new female sensation, the Arab Sports Games winner Hanan Nassar for the Olympic quota. The tough Indian did not underestimate the 21-year-old talent from Jordan and she made a strong pressure from the first seconds. Zareen is still too experienced and strong for Nassar therefore the Indian bagged the next Olympic quota at the women’s light flyweight (50kg).

Kazakhstan’s Karina Ibragimova claimed three medals already in the history of the Women’s World Boxing Championships and the reigning ASBC Asian Champion had the top performance in the sixth day of boxing in Hangzhou. She kept her full focus against DPR Korea’s Paek Jin Hyang and she looked confident from the first seconds in this bout. The 27-year-old Kazakh controlled all of the exchanges and periods of the contest and she joined the last eight at the featherweight (57kg).

Mongolia’s Namuun Monkhor is a fantastic boxer and she is in top form this year at the women’s featherweight (57kg). She opened the first round better than South Korea’s Jin Hye Jeong and all of the five judges favoured her after three minutes. Monkhor not only won the second round on the scorecards but she stopped the South Korean in the third round. Japan’s Satsuki Yoshizawa won the next contest also by RSC as Monkhor, she was too strong for Macau’s Chan Man Man.

Tajikistan’s Mizhgona Samadova, the bronze medallist from the Asian Championships, switched from other martial arts to our sport in 2017 and after a few years of experiences, he is now a quarter-finalist at the women’s featherweight (57kg). The Tajik boxer was stronger than Vietnam’s Nguyen Huyen Tran and she needs only one further step to qualify for Paris. Syria’s Ahmad Ghossoun, the Mediterranean Games winner from 2022, won the first male fight of the session, he defeated South Korea’s Kim Jin Jea. Iran’s Seyed Shahin Mousavi moved up to the light heavyweight (80kg) and he started well against another Tokyo Olympian, Tajikistan’s Shabbos Negmatulloev but his opponent was able to control the second and third rounds to win this fight. Thailand’s World Championships bronze medallist Weerapon Jongjoho stopped Japan’s Issei Aramoto still in the first round and he is a quarter-finalist. Philippines’ Olympic Games bronze medallist Eumir Felix Marcial won his second contest in this weight class in Hangzhou.
