Technical Delegate Mr. Angel Villarreal of US heaps praise on ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Amman

Serving as the Technical Delegate of the tournament, Mr. Angel Villarreal from the United States of America commended the high level of competition in the ongoing Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) Asian Elite Boxing Championships Amman 2022 in Jordan.

Mr. Angel Villarreal was selected for the significant post by the ASBC management led by President Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira of Thailand and Secretary General Mr. Ali Salameh of United Arab Emirates to ensure fair judging in the major continental tilt.

“The competition in the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships has been very impressive. The level of boxing in this tournament is truly exceptional,” he said.

“The Asian continent is very deep in talent and you can really see that all the participants trained hard to stay on top of their game,” he added.

Villarreal lauded the quality of matches in the women’s division as well, saying that it is “simply world class”, and praised the sportsmanship among the boxers from the 27 participating nations.

Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bhutan, Cambodia, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, South Korea, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Vietnam are duking it out in this year’s Asian Elite Championships.

Intense bouts were witnessed in the four-day preliminary round which concluded on November 4 and more exciting fights are expected to unfold in the quarterfinals and medal rounds.

“As a boxing fan also, this tournament is a treat to watch and an incredible experience,” Villarreal said.

The American boxing official also complimented the ASBC for organizing tournaments in all age groups, starting from the schoolboys/schoolgirls up to the elite, while securing the well-being of the athletes.

“ASBC is moving into the right direction in developing Asian boxers for the world and Olympic competitions. But most importantly, they always put the athletes’ welfare first.” Villarreal will continue to oversee the competition in Amman along with 10 ITO’s and 17 Referee-Judges until the final day on November 12.
