Tankibayeva, Tsendbaatar and Tulegenova were the bests at the Ibraimov Prizes Women’s Junior Tournament
The Ibraimov Prizes Women’s Junior Tournament was held in the city of Almaty, Kazakhstan where the local team, Uzbekistan and Mongolia earned the titles.
The competition was named after Mr. Yermakhan Ibraimov, who claimed gold medal at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, and he was World Champion, Asian Games winner and Asian Champion during his impressive boxing career.
The 2008 and 2009 born boxers were eligible to compete in the Ibraimov Prizes Women’s Junior Tournament. The number of the participating junior girls was 160 in Almaty where one of the local squads from the Karagandy region earned four gold medals while the Uzbeks took three titles in this strong event.
Aiym Tankibayeva and Maftuna Musurmonova probably are the best junior girls at the pinweight (46kg) not only in the Asian continent but in the entire world. Their repeat match delivered different result, Tankibayeva was able to do a revenge in the best junior final of the entire tournament.
The light flyweight (48kg) saw 18 girls in action and among them Uzbekistan’s Muktasar Aliyeva was able to beat Kazakhstan’s Asylai Murat in the final. Sila Bybolsynkyzy, the Junior World bronze medallist, had a tough final battle against Maral Tolepbergen from Almaty city but she managed to win the flyweight (50kg).
Lkham Tsendbaatar is Mongolia’s best female talent in the previous five years who defeated all of her four rivals including Balym Gabytkyzy in the final of the light bantamweight (52kg). Shyryn Manapova (54kg) and Abay’s Zhanel Imantayeva (57kg) both won their final contests by split decisions in Almaty.
Karagandy region’s Ayaulym Ospanova and her sister, Kamila Ospanova continued their impressive winning series during their career in Almaty as well. Kazakhstan, Alina Kudaigenova is another bronze medallist from the recent Junior World Boxing Championships who dominated the light welterweight (63kg). Uzbekistan’s Aselya Tulegenova had a small surprise in the final of the welterweight (66kg) where she defeated the Junior World Champion Aisulu Mukhit of Kazakhstan. Maftuna Yangiyeva earned a silver medal at the 2023 Junior World Boxing Championships and the 15-year-old Uzbek talent was too strong for the opponents in Almaty.
