Tajikistan plans to send 10 boxers to Chiang Mai including the Paris Olympian Samadova
Tajikistan selected a 10-strong team to the upcoming ASBC Asian Elite Men and Women Boxing Championships which will be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand from November 28 and will be lasting until December 12.
Tajikistan earned gold medals in the 2011 and the 2019 editions of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships after Anvar Yunusov’s and Bakhodur Usmonov’s successes. The Tajiks had two bronze medals in 2022 both of those boxers will miss the upcoming championships in Chiang Mai.
Mr. Ali Bobodzhanov, Mr. Rustam Muzafarov and Mr. Mukhammaddzhon Tashakhunov are the coaches of the elite national team who arranged all of the preparations and sessions in Dushanbe to reach the peak performance in Chiang Mai.
Mizhgona Samadova was the first Tajik female boxer after Mavzuna Chorieva who qualified for an Olympics. The 26-year-old boxer claimed a silver medal at the Strandja Memorial Tournament and she was excellent also in the previous editions of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships.
Nilufar Boboyorova was quarter-finalist at the 2019 Women’s World Boxing Championships and after a short break, she returned to the elite national team. The 28-year-old boxer will compete at the light welterweight (63kg) and she is aiming for her first ever ASBC Asian medal in North Thailand.
Mekhron Shafiyev is one of the most progressed Tajik male boxers who had just tight losses to top Paris Olympians during the qualification events. The 22-year-old multiple National Champion moved back to the minimumweight (48kg) which is perfect for his height and physical conditions.
Another Tajik talent from the 2002 age group, the ASBC Asian U22 silver medallist Khusravkhon Rakhimov competed in several preparation events in Kazakhstan to be in shape at the men’s featherweight (57kg) in Chiang Mai.
Akmal Ubaidov (60kg) and Shukhrat Salomatov (67kg) impressed in the recent national events and both boxers will make their debut in the level of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Thailand.
The powerful Shakhobdzhon Shukurov competed in Russia in the previous years but he returned to his Tajik roots and he is one of their strong medal hopes at the light middleweight (71kg). Abdumalik Boltayev impressed in several tournaments in the previous six years and the 23-year-old pugilist hopes a breakthrough in Chiang Mai.
Their tough cruiserweight (86kg), Akhmadjon Saidov claimed a bronze medal at the 2015 Junior World Boxing Championships in St. Petersburg, Russia and he returned to the squad in top shape. Parviz Karimov is another multiple National Champion in Tajikistan and he bagged medals in the preparation events as well.
