Syrymbetov, Sambay, Taybekov and Samozhonov were the bests at the Miroshnichenko Junior Memorial Tournament
The Aleksandr Miroshnichenko Junior Memorial Tournament was a strong international event with the participation of 108 boxers in the city of Kostanay.
The junior competition was named after Mr. Aleksandr “Alex” Miroshnichenko who claimed bronze medal at the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games and silver at the Moscow 1989 World Boxing Championships. The super heavyweight boxer who represented the Soviet Union during his career, died in Kostanay in 2003.
Kostanay is one of the important boxing regions in Kazakhstan and their management already decided to host three international competitions in 2024. Mrs. Svetlana Mahleyt is the engine and the main organizer of the events in Kostanay and she supports the participating teams.
The competition was held for the 2008 and 2009 born boxers in Kostanay in the upcoming days where five sessions are in the agenda. The junior international competition took place in 14 weight classes in Kostanay: 44kg, 46kg, 48kg, 50kg, 52kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 63kg, 66kg, 70kg, 75kg, 80kg and +80kg.
The first winner was Nurbol Berdikhaliyev, a 15-year-old boy from the Kostanay region who defeated Semen Semenov in the final of the additional 44kg weight class. Sagi Tursynbek is also only 15-year-old as Berdikhaliyev but the Kyzyl-Orda based boxer had the skills to beat all of his rivals at the pinweight (46kg).
Ismail Gabitov is a new young talent from the Pavlodar region who defeated Bakdaulet Erip in the final of the light flyweight (48kg). Madiyar Askertayev was one of the top names in the Miroshnichenko Junior Memorial Tournament and the Akmola region’s pride accomplished his goal to win the flyweight (50kg) easily.
Karagandy’s Bekzat Syrymbetov has strong connections to the sport and the 16-year-old talent outpointed Ernur Onertay in the final of the bantamweight (54kg). Another boxer from Karagandy, Mansur Tleuzhan had a difficult semi-final against Margulan Auyt but he had a more focused performance in the final when he defeated Arman Akhatov. Kyzyl-Orda’s 16-year-old Sudman Sambay stopped two out of his four opponents at the light welterweight (63kg) in Kostanay while Madi Galym from the Akmola region impressed at the welterweight (66kg). Karagandy’s Timur Taybekov shined at the light middleweight (70kg) and the top favourite Vladislav Samozhonov won the last gold medal in the memorial event.
