Syria will send a woman talent to the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships for the first time

Syria will send one female and two male boxers to the upcoming ASBC Asian Elite Men and Women Boxing Championships which will be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand from November 28 and will be lasting until December 12.

Syria claimed a bronze medal in the 2023 Asian Games and the country reached top results in the 2022 Mediterranean Games as well. The Syrians arranged some of their National Championships in 2024 despite their hard period in the country.

Mr. Mahmoud Al-Salloum will be the team manager of the Syrian boxing delegation in the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships.

A former international level boxer, Mr. Yasser Sheikhan is the coach of the elite national team and he selected three talents to the travelling team.

The country selected a female boxer for the very first time in the history of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships. Syria sent female boxers to the 2011 Women’s Youth & Junior World Boxing Championships but since then the country was not able to take girls to the competitions due to their internal difficulties.

Sedra Dawoud Mahmoud turned 19 only this year and joined the elite competitions following her participations in the youth age group. The teenage girl from the city of Homs will be competing at the women’s featherweight (57kg) in Chiang Mai.

The 24-year-old Odai Khaddam participated in the Brics Games earlier this year and he won his opening contest at the light heavyweight (80kg) there. He was stopped by a powerful Chinese boxer, Halimulati Rehemandu in the quarter-finals in the Games but that competition was a great international debut for Khaddam.

Latakia’s 22-year-old Jafar Ismaeil moved up to the super heavyweight (+92kg) and he won the annual National Championships with dominance. The former two-time Youth National Champion Ismaiel has been preparing hard to his first ever ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships.
