Syria opened its campaign perfectly at the Military World Boxing Championships
The Military World Boxing Championships began with strong preliminary contests in Moscow, Russia. Syria’s duo Mohamed Kheir Mousatat and Ahmad Ghossoun opened their campaigns with successes in the opening sessions.
Altogether 231 boxers from 36 nations are attending in the event from the Asian, European, American and African continents in Moscow. During the Military World Boxing Championships 216 female and male bouts will be held in the Russian capital. Fifteen champions will be crowned in the Military World Boxing Championships after the finals of the competition.
Uzbekistan’s Aziza Yokubova has been attending in the international events since 2014 but her skills developed dramatically in the recent one and half year. The Uzbek girl impressed against Nepal’s Minu Gurung at the women’s flyweight (51kg) and won their contest unanimously. Another Uzbek female boxer, Tokyo Olympic Games quarter-finalist Raykhona Kodirova dominated all of the three rounds against Mongolia’s 19-year-old Ganzorig Badmaarag at the lightweight (60kg) and won her nation’s next success in Moscow.
Kazakhstan’s Aitzhan Ashirkhan won gold medals at the Puerto Princesa 2017 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships and several other international events but his first opponent was Mongolia’s Chinzorig Baatarsukh. The 10-years-older Mongolian is the defending ASBC Asian Champion at the light welterweight (64kg) therefore he was the top favourite of their contests. The 20-year-old Kazakh boxer was energetic and his rhythm surprised the two-time Olympian Mongolian which delivered a surprise success for Ashirkhan.
Syria’s Army boxer Mohamed Kheir Mousatat joined to the international events a few years ago and he is not a well-known hope at the light welterweight (64kg) yet but his skills were enough to beat South Korea’s You Gi Heon. In another Asian battle in the same weight class, Pakistan’s Commonwealth Games competitor Suleman Baloch controlled all of the three rounds against Bangladesh’s Mohamed Hossan Ali. The next bout in this weight category was won by National Championships silver medallist Mujibullo Tursunov of Uzbekistan who had a success over Iran’s Hossein Jeddi.
South Korea competed only at the Tokyo Olympic Games in the international stage this year and their male boxers made their comeback to the events after a long break. Their welterweight (69kg) army boxer Son Seok Jun had a more experienced rival as first, Tunisia’s All Africa Games winner veteran Ahmed Mejri but he shined in their preliminary contest. Son Seok Jun finished their contest before the final bell and eliminated a medal favourite in the Russian capital.
Syria’s ASBC Asian Boxing Championships bronze medallist Ahmad Ghossoun moved up to the middleweight (75kg) in the recent years and he had a tough contest as first in Moscow against Italy’s Raffaele Munno. Ghossoun could not attend in the recent international events but he returned with a nice success over the Italian rival. Iran’s Mahdi Sarbaz Bakhshayesh defeated Sri Lanka’s Indika Mudiyanselage and also advanced to the next stage of boxing in the same weight class.
