Strong teams from India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Thailand will be attending in the Gee Bee Tournament this week
The 38th edition of the Gee Bee Tournament will be one of the highlights in the international boxing stage this week. The prestigious competition will be held in Finland’s capital city in Helsinki and four of the Asian teams are using the event as preparation for the upcoming ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships.
Following the Strandja Memorial Tournament the Gee Bee Tournament will be another small World Championships with 4 Confederations in the line-ups. Australia, Canada, England, France, Lithuania, Russia and United States of America also will be fighting for the medals in the forthcoming Gee Bee Tournament.
India’s AIBA Youth World Champion Sachin Siwach Singh is one of the favourites of the Gee Bee Tournament
The Indian head coach Mr. Santiago Nieva selected a strong team to the Gee Bee Tournament including their AIBA Youth World Champion Sachin Siwach Singh (52kg) in their line-ups. Two-time Olympian Shiva Thapa was not enough successful last year, but the former ASBC Asian Champion is among the favourites of the lightweight (60kg). ASBC Asian Junior Champion Prayag Chauhan (75kg), London 2012 Olympian Sumit Sangwan and Naveen Kumar (+91kg) are also powerful boxers.
Kazakhstan’s head coach selected a young team to the Gee Bee Tournament
Kazakhstan’s new elite head coach Mr. Galymbek Kenzhebayev selected a young team with promising teenagers to the 38th Gee Bee Tournament. Youth Olympic Games silver medallist Talgat Shayken (69kg), AIBA Youth World Champion Nurbek Oralbay (75kg), Youth Olympic Games winner Aibek Oralbay (91kg) and ASBC Asian Youth Champion Damir Toybay (+91kg) all shined in the youth level last year and received the right to represent Kazakhstan’s elite team at the very first time.
Kyrgyzstan’s best boxers will be there in Helsinki including ASBC Asian Champion Azat Usenaliev
Kyrgyzstan’s head coach Mr. Daniyar Jusubaliev is fully focusing to the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships and their best six boxers will be attending in the Gee Bee Tournament. The biggest name of the squad is Azat Usenaliev who claimed gold at the Amman 2013 ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships and bronze at the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games. The Kyrgyz flyweight (52kg) star impressed in the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament in February and introduced his top form. His teammate 21-year-old Abdurakhman Abdurakhmanov also won a title in the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament in Bishkek.
Thailand’s former youth stars as Panmod, Phoemsap and Yeasungnoen will be making their debuts in the elite level in Helsinki
Thailand will be the host of the upcoming ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships and before the event three of their 18-year-old teenage stars will be making their debuts in the elite level this week. The Gee Bee Tournament is a strong competition but AIBA Youth World Champion Thitisan Panmod (52kg), Youth Olympic Games winner Atichai Phoemsap (64kg) and AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Peerapat Yeasungnoen (69kg) are all enough strong to achieve podium places in Helsinki.
