Strong start for Kazakhstan at the 18th Silesian Open

Kazakhstan had a brilliant start in the 18th Silesian Open Women’s Tournament which is one of the highlights of the week. Poland’s Gliwice is the host of the women’s elite, youth and junior international competition as in the past.

The six best Kazakh female boxers will be competing in the Asian Games and they are in the last stage of their preparations. The management of the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation decided to send their second and third line-ups to the Silesian Open Women’s Tournament to give them chance to shine in an international event.

Kazakhstan’s Moldir Toikova is still in the U22 age group but she dominated the first and second rounds against Germany’s Esmanur Ceylan in Gliwice. The 21-year-old Kazakh girl’s opponent was disqualified in the third round therefore Toikova marched to the next stage of the Silesian Open.

Aida Abikeyeva moved down to the lightweight (60kg) in the previous months and the Women’s World Boxing Championships competitor was too strong for Poland’s Wiktoria Hass. The 25-year-old Kazakh won all of the three rounds 10:8 in each scorecard which showed her clear dominance in this bout.

Dariga Shakimova was bronze medallist at the Rio 2016 Olympics and she moved back to the welterweight (66kg) but a new sensation, Natalia Bogdanova will be Kazakhstan’s participant at the Asian Games. Shakimova had to meet Poland’s No.1, the European Championships silver medallist Aneta Rygielska but the veteran Kazakh was able to beat the local favourite winning the bout by split decision.

Madina Nurshayeva, the 2017 ASBC Asian Champion, returned to the national team last year and the Kazakh girl had a hard job against Poland’s younger Barbara Marcinkowska. Nurshayeva competes at the light middleweight (70kg) now and after Shakimova, she managed to win a contest against a local talent.

Kazakhstan’s heavyweight (+81kg) hope, Eldana Talipova is only 21-year-old, but she has already six years of international experiences. The Kazakh talent spent short time in the ring, the referee confirmed her RSC success over Poland’s Michalina Retman still in the first round of their bout.
