Strong Mongolian line-ups with returning boxers at the AIBA World Boxing Championships
The Mongolian Boxing Federation confirmed its team to the upcoming AIBA World Boxing Championships which will be starting in Belgrade, Serbia on the 24th of October. Experienced boxers returned to the national team including ASBC Asian Boxing Championships silver medallist Gan-Erdene Gankhuyag and former Olympic Games bronze medallist Uranchimeg Munkherdene.
Mongolia’s new head coach Mr. Enkhtur Jadamba selected finally nine boxers to the travelling team. Mr. Otgonchuluun Batkhuu and Mr. Bold Erdenebayar will help his job in the national team during the Belgrade event.
The Mongolians impressed in the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships, the country claimed record number of three gold medals this May. Among the winners Enkh-Amar Kharkhuu (57kg) and Chinzorig Baatarsukh (67kg) will be also there in the AIBA World Boxing Championships. The only missing athlete in their team is Asian Games winner and two-time ASBC Asian Champion Erdenebat Tsendbaatar.
Gan-Erdene Gankhuyag is an excellent boxer who returns to the national team after three years of break and will represent Mongolia at the light flyweight (48kg). The 28-year-old boxer claimed silver medal at the Tashkent 2017 ASBC Asian Boxing Championships and qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Enkhmandakh Kharkhuu is one of the biggest punchers at the flyweight (51kg) who can attend in his second AIBA World Boxing Championships. His brother, Enkh-Amar Kharkhuu was Olympian in Rio de Janeiro and earned the title at the 2021 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships after beating Uzbekistan’s Mirazizbek Mirzakhalilov.
Enkh-Amgalan Bayarsaikhan was bronze medallist in the 2017 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships and the 22-year-old boxer can make his debut in the elite level. Mongolia’s second debutant is Tulga Oyunbaatar who is only 20 but he had strong junior and youth experiences from major championships.
The regining ASBC Asian Champion Chinzorig Baatarsukh competed in his second Olympic Games in Tokyo but he was eliminated in the first preliminary round. The 30-year-old boxer moved up to the new welterweight (67kg) and changed with his younger compatriot, Battumur Misheelt (63.5kg) who also claimed medal in the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships.
The biggest return in the national team is the currently 39-year-old Uranchimeg Munkherdene who competed already at the Budapest 2000 AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships. He claimed bronze medals at the London 2012 Olympic Games and two-times in the AIBA World Boxing Championships. Munkherdene will compete at the middleweight (75kg) in Belgrade which was his last category when he attended events four years ago.
