Sri Lanka achieved two gold, two silver and two bronze medals at the Constitution Day Tournament in the Seychelles

Sri Lanka achieved two gold, two silver and two bronze medals in the Constitution Day Tournament in the Seychelles which was an international competition with the participation of Mauritius, Reunion, Kenya and the host country.

The Sri Lankan six-strong team enjoyed the competition in Seychelles’ main event at the Constitution Day Tournament. Mr. Anuruddha Shanaka Bandara is the new President in the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka and he sent the team out of country quickly which is part of their new strategy.

The trainers such as Mr. I.R. Balasooriya the head coach of the national team, and Mr. Abdulla Ibunu both were satisfied with the performance of the squad. M.U. Kumaratunga was the team manager of the Sri Lankan delegation while A.P.A.N. Ambagala worked in the event as a Referee & Judge.

D.G. Udayakumara (71kg) from the Sri Lankan Air Force and P.S.S.P. Fernando (67kg) achieved the gold medals in their weight classes at the Constitution Day Tournament in the Seychelles after beating all of their rivals.

A middleweight (75kg) hope, K.G. Pathmasiri from the Sri Lankan Army, the Best Male Boxer of the last edition of the Sri Lankan National Boxing Championships, achieved a silver medal in the international event. J.M.T. Deshan from the St. Sylvester’s College bagged Sri Lanka’s second silver medal at the youth light welterweight (63.5kg).

H.W.G.P. Rathnasiri competed at the elite light heavyweight (80kg), and he claimed a bronze medal for the Sri Lankans. Malith Bandara from the Royal College Colombo earned their second bronze medal at the youth middleweight (75kg). Team Sri Lanka will return to the country after the competition and preparations together with the host country on June 26. The Sri Lankans are planning to participate in several of the upcoming international training camps and boxing tournaments.
