Six Paris Olympians won the female titles at the 3rd Elorda Cup

Six of the qualified Paris Olympians won the gold medals in the women’s finals of the 3^rd Elorda Cup in Astana, Kazakhstan were 68 female boxers competed for the titles.

The organizers of the Elorda Cup were the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of Astana City and the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation. Kazakhstan has just hosted the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships and the Elorda Cup was their next international vent in Astana.

India’s Minakshi eliminated a younger opponent, Kazakhstan’s Gulnaz Buribayeva in the semi-finals of the women’s minimumweight (48kg) and she defeated another U22 boxer, Uzbekistan’s 20-year-old Saidakhon Rakhmonova in the first female final.

China’s Wu Yu had an exciting re-match against Uzbekistan’s Sabina Bobokulova in the semi-finals of the light flyweight (50kg) but they can meet each other once more in the Paris Olympics. The Chinese boxer maintained the best fighting distance well enough and she defeated India’s Anamika in the second female final of the competition.

India’s No.1 Nikhat Zareen, the two-time World Champion, competed at the flyweight (52kg) in Astana and she bagged her next international title against Kazakhstan’s Zhazira Urakbayeva. China’s Asian Games winner Chang Yuan is also an Olympian boxer in Paris and she had the routine to beat Kazakhstan’s Asian U22 silver medallist Anel Sakysh.

Kazakhstan’s World silver medallist Karina Ibragimova had an impressive performance against Morocco’s African Champion Widad Bertal and she won the women’s featherweight (57kg) in Astana.

Ibragimova’s teammate, the promising Viktoriya Grafeyeva used her longer reach well enough against her two top opponents such as China’s Asian Games winner Yang Wenlu and India’s World bronze medallist Manisha Moun.

Following Aida Abikeyeva’s successful return to the international events, China’s World Champion and Asian Games winner Yang Liu had a brilliant performance against a local veteran, Milana Safronova at the welterweight (66kg).

China’s Olympic Games silver medallist Li Qian is a multiple champion in all levels of boxing therefore she had the right strategy against Uzbekistan’s Sokhiba Ruzmetova before Kazakhstan’s Yeldana Talipova made the surprise of the day against Lazzat Kungeibayeva in the heaviest weight class.
