Seidakmatov, Talaybekov, Bektenov and Bekzhigit Uulu won fantastic battles in the Bishkek City Open Boxing Championships

The Bishkek City Open Boxing Championships was Kyrgyzstan’s first national level event after the quarantine period. Kyrgyzstan’s native talent Omurbek Bekzhigit Uulu won the most anticipated battle at the light heavyweight (81kg) over Rio 2016 Olympian Erkin Adylbek Uulu. The best performances were delivered by Sanzhar Seidakmatov, Rysbek Bektenov and Zhakshylyk Talaybekov in Bishkek.

The number of the boxers was 55 in the competition and eleven champions including two women athletes have been crowned in the Bishkek City Open Boxing Championships. The men’s welterweight (69kg) was the most crowded division with the participation of 13 boxers in Bishkek.

The Kyrgyz elite and youth national teams trained in the Issyk-Kul region of the country in the recent weeks which mountainous area is famous of its health and sport benefits. The Issyk-Kul is one of the most famous lakes in the Central Asian region which had picturesque mountain views. The Kyrgyz national team prepares to the next goals especially the next edition of the ASBC Asian Boxing Championships and the World Olympic Boxing Qualification Event.

Two of the women boxers won the title of the Bishkek City Open Boxing Championships which were 18-year-old Aigerim Danigulova at the flyweight (51kg) and a returning hope, Shakhriza Khalilova of the Family Sports Boxing Club at the featherweight (57kg). Experienced Khalilova competed in previous ASBC and Asian Games events and decided to continue her boxing career.

Baktybek Sadyrbek Uulu is an 18-year-old talent who competed in several international events and had enough experiences to beat all of his opponents at the men’s flyweight (52kg). Sanzhar Seidakmatov is a super talented 20-year-old boxer who competed in AIBA and ASBC events as a youth boxer and he won his second elite competition in Bishkek. Seidakmatov stopped Zhakshylyk Tilek Uulu in the final of the featherweight (57kg) and proved that he could be a future star.

Askat Kultayev is also an 18-year-old talent who demonstrated his strength at the lightweight (60kg) winning the category over Zhenishbek Belasharov in a hectic final. Rysbek Bektenov is a 19-year-old Kyrgyz talent who claimed silver medal in the last edition of the Elite National Championships. Bektenov defeated all of his three opponents at the light welterweight (63kg) including Aibek Sultanbayev in the final.

Zhakshylyk Talaybekov spent months in a training camp and returned to the events with high motivations. The 26-year-old boxer eliminated FISU University World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Temirlan Osmonov in the semi-finals and he was also better than Adilet Egenberdi Uulu in the final of the welterweight (69kg). Former AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Adilet Batyraliev dominated middleweight (75kg) in the Bishkek Open Championships.

ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Omurbek Bekzhigit Uulu moved up to the light heavyweight (81kg) and met in the semi-finals with Rio 2016 Olympian Erkin Adylbek Uulu. Their contest was the most anticipated one in the event which delivered 20-year-old Bekzhigit Uulu’s success over his ASBC Asian Boxing Championships bronze medallist rival. Bekzhigit Uulu did not box in the final therefore 18-year-old Bakyt Toktosun Uulu won the title of the event.

Rustam Yrysbek Uulu is Kyrgyzstan’s best heavyweight (91kg) boxer currently who controlled his final contest over a returning boxer, veteran Ilyar Akhmetov who competed already international events in 2002. The super heavyweight (+91kg) title was captured by Spartak Boxing Club’s Bekbolsun Toktosun Uulu.

Kyrgyzstan’s next event, the National Elite Boxing Championships is also scheduled and will be held still this year. That competition will be a selection tournament for the World Olympic Boxing Qualification Event which is scheduled to be held on June 2021.
