Saudi Arabian National Championships
New hopes shine in the Saudi Arabian National Championships
The Saudi Arabian National Championships was held in their capital city in Riyadh where 63 elite men boxers attended in the competition. Saudi Arabia will be hosting the region’s top boxing event, the important Gulf Countries Tournament in the end of March in Riyadh therefore their Nationals was also a selection competition to that international challenge.
The AIBA Asian & Oceania Olympic Qualifiers will be held in the same time in Qianan, China therefore the Saudi Arabians will have duplicated job to cover both events. Former President of the Syrian Boxing Federation Mr. Mohamed Kamel Shbib is supporting the Saudi Arabian Boxing Federation with his experiences and skills.
The capital city of the country Riyadh claimed three gold medals in the Saudi Arabian National Championships and became the most successful team. The first gold medal in the event was achieved by Mohamed Ahmed Rabee who defeated Mouteb Awadh Al-Dosari in the gold medal bout The final verdict of their bout was split decision to Rabee who is a young hope at the Light Flyweight class (49 kg).
National team member Fayez Mohamed Al-Shammari became the second winner of the Saudi Arabian National Championships following his triumph over Dayem Maree Al-Najee. His lethal punches were serious to his opponents who injured in the second round of their Flyweight class (52 kg) final.
Mohamed Shaful Mohamed and Walid Ahmed Kaabi both defeated their rivals winning their contests by TKO before the final gong. Mohamed Saleh Al-Zuman and Mostafa Mohamed Al-Galaf had harder ways to the final glory but after the final bells both talents could celebrate their gold medals in Riyadh.
Ahmed Khalifa Al-Suwelim defeated AIBA World Boxing Championships competitor and Gulf Countries Tournament bronze medallist Ahmed Jaber Al-Faifi in the final of the Middleweight class (75 kg) which was the main sensation of the Saudi Arabian National Boxing Championships.
Ahmed Yahya Haqawi defeated Gulf Countries Tournament bronze medallist Salem Ahmed Faqihi in the final of the Light Heavyweight class (81 kg) and received a ticket to the main events of 2016. The final gold medal was achieved by Mahmoud Asadallah who knocked out national team member Gulf Countries Tournament silver medallist Wessam Marjir Al-Alawi who moved up two weight classes in the recent two years but could not stop his opponent quicker attacks in the last bout of the competition.
