Saidykarim, Kalabay, Karymbek and Samozhonov won the best finals at the Bakhtiyar Artayev Junior Tournament

Kazakhstan dominated the finals of the Bakhtiyar Artayev Junior Tournament in Astana, Kazakhstan where the busy competition has completed with its 14 title contests.

The competition was named after Mr. Bakhtiyar Artayev who is an Olympic Games winner from the Athens 2004 edition and he claimed two bronze medals in the 2005 and 2007 World Boxing Championships as well. Kazakhstan’s welterweight and middleweight star in the 2000s was also silver medallist at the Doha 2006 Asian Games and he reached the quarter-finals at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

The 2008 and 2009 born boxers competed in the Bakhtiyar Artayev Junior Tournament in Astana, Kazakhstan. Record number of 298 talents participated in the event in 14 weight categories from the 44kg up to the heavyweight (+80kg). All of the regions from Kazakhstan, furthermore Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan competed at the Bakhtiyar Artayev Junior Tournament to Astana.

Astana’s first sensation Yerassyl Maratov met a younger rival in the final of the 44kg weight class, the host city’s pride defeated Syrym Muratbek and he has now the chance to compete for Kazakhstan in the upcoming ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships.

Kostanay region’s Aidos Usenov was only quarter-finalist at the Kazakhstan Junior National Championships last December but in this top international event he defeated Adil Askanbay of Almaty at the pinweight (46kg) final.

Turkestan region’s Dias Saidykarim and Shymkent’s Beksultan Khuzhamzhar both moved up to the light flyweight (48kg) since their last appearance a few months ago. The younger Saidykarim proved his excellent technical skills and he defeated the Junior National Champion winning the final by unanimous decision.

Akmola region’s Bekarys Adilbay continued his winning path after the previous competitions and he triumphed over Yerdaulet Atauov at the flyweight (50kg). Dzhambul region’s Damir Akimbayev won the next final in Astana, he had a tight 2:1 split decision success over Uzbekistan’s 14-year-old Bobomurod Boimirzayev.

Akmola region’s Ali Mereke was silver medallist at the Kazakhstan Junior National Championships but at the Artayev Junior Tournament, he was unstoppable at the bantamweight (54kg). The Junior National Champion Akzhurek Kalabay proved that he is one of the best boxers in this age group in Kazakhstan and he achieved the title of the featherweight (57kg) against Rizat Tynyshtyk.

Beibarys Ashyrbai and Gayrat Iristayev both won their finals by split decisions against top national rivals at the light welterweight (63kg) and welterweight (66kg). The Junior National Champion Nurassyl Karymbek had tough contests in Astana but he managed to win all of them including the final against Timur Taybekov.

Uzbekistan’s lone gold medal in the event was achieved by their 16-year-old Ruslan Ibragimov at the middleweight (75kg) in Astana. A local boxer, Vladislav Samozhonov was the biggest favourite at the heavyweight (+80kg) and he accomplished that target against Aydamir Sautbek.
