Sachin, Paalam and Iashaish enjoyed comfortable victories today

Several of the winners advanced to the quarter-finals at the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Bangkok and among them Sachin, Paalam and Iashaish made comfortable victories.

Altogether 579 boxers from 133 countries are participating in the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Bangkok where the total number of the available quotas for the Paris 2024 Olympics is 51. The number of the coaches, officials and team delegations members is 610 in Thailand.

India’s Sachin Siwach, the Youth World Champion, is in fantastic shape in this qualification event, the southpaw worked from longer distance against Turkey’s Batuhan Ciftci today. The 21-year-old Indian managed to win the important first round in all of the judges’ scorecards and he overcame his European rival in the attacks with great efficiency. Sachin was quicker in all of the exchanges and Ciftci did not find the beast weapon against him therefore the Indian advanced to the Top8 at the men’s featherweight (57kg).

Kyrgyzstan’s first ever medallist in a World Boxing Championships Munarbek Seyitbek Uulu is one of their most experienced boxers in the national team. The Kyrgyz featherweight (57kg) boxer moved forward against Uruguay’s historic Panamerican Games bronze medallist Lucas Alexander Fernandez but he was patient in the exchanges. Seyitbek Uulu landed his single jabs with perfect timing and he secured his place in the quarter-finals as first from Kyrgyzstan.

Philippines’ Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Carlo Paalam had a great preparation for this Qualifier with training camps and competitions in the United States and in Thailand. Paalam’s speed at the featherweight (57kg) was phenomenal in his Round of 16 battle against Armenia’s European U22 Champion Artur Bazeyan and he had the advantage on the scorecards. Bazeyan had to go to the medical corners in the third round, he could continue the fight but Paalam’s strategy was better as the outcome of the bout.

Jordan’s Hussein Iashaish is aiming for his third Olympic Games and he worked hard in his Round of 16 bout to go further in Bangkok. Jordan’s veteran moved down to the light heavyweight (80kg) in 2022 but he was smaller than Romania’s European U22 Champion Paul Andrei Aradoaie. Iashaish dictated the tempo, he put the Romanian under pressure in the first and seconds rounds which guaranteed his place in the quarter-finals.

Iran’s Meysam Gheshlaghi, the 2021 Asian Championships silver medallist, had several international victories this year and he attacked from the first seconds to catch Mongolia’s Ganzorig Dalai in their light heavyweight (80kg) contest. The Iranian was aggressive, ruled the middle of the ring and he followed the instructions of his Cuban and Mexican coaches well enough in the second and third rounds to win the preliminary bout.

Thailand’s Weerapon Jongjoho has seven years international experience but he was fully focused against Kyrgyzstan’s big puncher, Omurbek Bekzhigit Uulu in their light heavyweight (80kg) contest. Jongjoho used his longer reach well in the first round and Bekzhigit Uulu was not able to catch the quick Thai. The Thai knocked down the smaller Kyrgyz in the second round and the German referee stopped their contest.

Erkin Adylbek Uulu is the veteran in the Kyrgyz national team and he is their last Olympian boxer from the 2016 Rio de Janeiro edition. His best category is the cruiserweight (86kg) but he competes in Bangkok at the heavyweight (92kg) as in the previous qualification events. The 33-year-old Kyrgyz was motivated against Slovakia’s David Michalek and the three-times Asian bronze medallist Adylbek Uulu won all of the three rounds in this contest.

Afghanistan’s Silab Noori is the German National Champion but he returned to his national team after three years of break. The 22-year-old Afghan had a brave attempt in the first round to surprise Serbia’s ex-Russian Sadam Magomedov and he looked quick in the exchanges. The veteran Serbian increased his tempo in the second but Noori came back with better shots in the third and the Afghan eliminated his next rival in Bangkok.
