Record number of three gold medals for Tajikistan at the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament

The new edition of the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament finished with its 13 final bouts in Kostanay, North Kazakhstan over the weekend. Tajikistan claimed three gold medals for the very first time in the history of the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament.

Altogether 121 boxers participated in the new edition of the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament in Kostanay which was the boxing highlight of the week just before the Paris Olympic Games.

The city of Kostanay is located in the Northern part of Kazakhstan and hosted several strong boxing events in the recent more than one decade including national, international and regional competitions.

The Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament was a men’s youth international competition, which was named by Ural and Korgan Aitenov. Boxers who were born in 2006 and in 2007, were eligible to participate in the new edition of the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament.

The Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament will be a perfect option for those who are planning to prepare for the upcoming Youth World Boxing Championships. The head of the local organizers, Mrs. Svetlana Mahleyt was the engine of the tournament.

The Tajiks had three finalists in the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament and all of them succeeded in the title bouts. Damir Muybalikhonov and the ASBC Youth medallist Ruslan Gafurov won their finals by split decisions while Idris Ilnazarov stopped his local opponent, Nurassyl Duman in the first round of their super heavyweight (+92kg) meeting.

Uzbekistan’s duo, Abdulaziz Abdunazarov and Abdullokh Tokhirov both have the strong international experience to win bouts against local Kazakh stars. Abdunazarov defeated Zharkyn Shayken at the flyweight (51kg) while Abdullokh Tokhirov made a strong debut in his new category as the welterweight (67kg).

Kyrgyzstan’s Azim Choybekov competed in the recent three editions of the ASBC Asian Boxing Championships as a junior and a youth boxer. The ASBC medallist cruiserweight (86kg) boxer was too strong for Kazakhstan’s Almaty-based Alikhan Azimbek and the referee stopped their contest in the second round.

Kazakhstan’s Almas Nurlan had a very difficult final against Jordan’s Hamdan Abbas Qasim but he managed to win their meeting by split decision at the bantamweight (54kg). Pavlodar region’s Arystan Nurmagambet stopped his opponent at the middleweight (75kg), while another local boxer, Aslan Yeldibayuly knocked out his Uzbek rival at the heavyweight (92kg) final.
