Record number of seven Cambodian boxers will be attending in the upcoming ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships
Cambodia is a developing boxing country in the Southeast Asian region but their management will be sending record number of seven boxers to the upcoming ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships to Bangkok. The competition will be starting on April 18 but Cambodia already named their female and male boxers to the continental event.
The Cambodian National Boxing Championships for the elite women and elite men boxers was held in Sky Land in Kandal Province two months ago where nine winners have been crowned and the event was their selection competition for the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships.
Their national team attended in the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament last July and their General Secretary Mr. Sophoan Buy has been working hard to raise the level of boxing in Cambodia. The record number of seven boxers in the upcoming Bangkok event shows their strong development and attitude in our sport.
The Cambodian boxers have got long term strategic goals the 2023 Southeast Asian Games which will be held in the country at the very first time. The management of the Cambodian Boxing Federation established a long term strategy to develop boxing and make it more popular in the country before 2023.
Cambodia sent women boxers to the Ho Chi Minh City 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships which was a great effort from the developing country and their historical participation in female boxing. The newly crowned National Champion Nao Srey Pov (51kg) and experienced Vy Srey Khouch (60kg) consists their female squad.
Future hope Sao Raingsey is Cambodia’s best light flyweight (49kg) boxer who claimed gold medal in the last two editions of the National Championships in spite of the fact he is only 19. Another Cambodian teenage talent 18-year-old Bang Non was quarter-finalist at the Bangkok 2018 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships and received the right to box for his country once again but this time in the elite level.
Defending National Champion Nat Sieknin is Cambodia’s most experienced male elite boxer who claimed bronze medal in the last edition of the Southeast Asian Games. He is member of the Cambodian national team since 2012 and will be attending at the bantamweight (56kg) in Bangkok. Further young hopes such as Daroth Yon (64kg) and Sophors Vy (69kg) are their sixth and seventh team members for the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships.
