Philippines’ star Criztian Pitt Laurente won his first bout in the ASEAN Youth Championships on Day1
Thailand Boxing Association is hosting the first edition of the ASEAN Youth Boxing Championships in Saraburi and the competition began with its first competition day. Philippines’ Children of Asia Games winner Criztian Pitt Laurente opened his participation with a superb success in the opening day.
Among the Southeast Asian nations Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam are taking part in the competition in Saraburi. Women boxers can take part in the ASEAN Youth Boxing Championships in four weight classes: 51kg, 57kg, 60kg and 75kg. The men talents have got six weight classes in the ASEAN Youth Boxing Championships: 49kg, 52kg, 56kg, 60kg, 64kg and 69kg. Boxers who were born in 1999 and in 2000 are eligible to compete in the ASEAN Youth Boxing Championships.
Indonesia’s Maluku Governor Cup silver medallist Ainun Azizah moved up to the flyweight (51kg) but she adopted the level of the category quickly and opened her participation with a success against Vietnam’s Nguyen Thanh Thom. In the second woman bout Vietnam’s Vu Doan Thi Hong Cham was too smart for Philippines’ Carolyn Calungsod at the featherweight (57kg) of the competition.
Thailand’s Thitisan Panmod delivered the first success for the host nation who was too strong for Laos’ Viengxai Akhalith at the light flyweight (49kg). His teammate Sattawet Srisung also advanced to the next stage of this weight class following his superb success over Indonesia’s Welem Rafael Batuwael who competed in the last edition of the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in St. Petersburg.
Philippines’ Children of Asia Games winner Criztian Pitt Laurente was awarded the Best Asian Junior Boxer of the Year 2016 and began his participation in the 1st ASEAN Youth Boxing Championships with amazing performance against Laos’ Alek Lekhoth who claimed silver in their Junior National Championships. The 17-year-old Filipino lightweight (60kg) boxer dominated all of the rounds in Saraburi and advanced to the next stage of the historical youth competition.
Laurente’s teammate Milenino Anduyan is a new member of the Filipino squad who also advanced to the next round of the competition after beating Vietnam’s Nguyen Linh Phung at the light flyweight (49kg). Philippines has got excellent traditions in the this weight class and their new face in the youth national team also proved his talent in our sport.
