Pavithran Rajini Kanth impressed at the 21st Malaysian National Games and three female talents also earned their titles

The 21st Malaysian Sukma National Games took place for the U21 boxers and the country’s best future hope, Pavithran Rajini Kanth was also among the gold medallists.

The Malaysian National Games was held in Sri Aman, Sarawak state on the island of Borneo with the participation of 15 women and 89 men boxers. Boxers who were born between 2003 and 2007 were eligible to participate in the Malaysian National Games.

The women’s boxing was involved to the official program in this National Games and three historic winners celebrated their gold medals.

Deidra Jacquelina Richard will be turning to 18 only later this year but the Sabah-based boxer won all of the three rounds against Sarawak’s Patricia Jaquilina Anak Bruce in the final of the women’s minimumweight (48kg).

Pulau Pinang’s Sharmela Tamil Selvam had disadvantage on the judges scorecards against Sarawak’s Clavia Charlene Sudang Anak Kenedy but the 21-year-old boxer returned to the final bout in time to take the title of the flyweight (52kg) by 3:2 split decision.

Another teenage talent in women’s boxing, the 17-year-old Hamiesha Binti Hamdan of Sarawak secured the title of the featherweight (57kg) after beating Selangor’s Balqis Dayana Binti Badrol Hisham.

Sarawak’s Clarkson Evans Tom Anak Frankie has just celebrated his 19th birthday but he had the speed and the technical skills to beat Kedah’s Thanasekaran Rajendran in the final of the men’s minimumweight (48kg).

Pulau Pinang’s Pavithran Rajini Kanth was one of the biggest names in the entire National Games who dominated the men’s flyweight (51kg) final against Selangor’s Muhammad Irfan Haikal Bin Mohamed Fazli.

Pulau Pinang’s 20-year-old Mohamad Rizal Bin Wahidi controlled all of the three rounds against Negeri Sembilan’s Najmuddin Bin Abdul Rahman and he bagged the title of the bantamweight (54kg).

Sarawak’s new local sensation, Frederick Xian Anak Bartholomew Albern will be only 19 later this year but he demonstrated his excellent strength against the favourite of the featherweight (57kg), Joel Evekly Jain of Sabah.

Johor’s Azib Zafran Bin Zolkarnain was the oldest competitor in the boxing event of the National Games and he earned the title of the light middleweight (71kg) following his success over Sabah’s Jonathan John.

Muhammad Syafiq Qusyairy Bin Shamizan was Pulau Pinang’s next winner in the National Games, he defeated a boxer from Terengganu, Muhammad Azrul Ezad Bin Zolkifli at the men’s light heavyweight (80kg). Pinang earned also the last title of the National Games, their Danaraj Anantha Selvam won the heavyweight (+86kg).
