Parvizi, Fayzov and Syrymbetov won the tightest semi-finals in Baku
The Asians shined in the last part of the semi-finals at the Great Silk Way Tournament in Baku, Azerbaijan on Day4.
The host of the competition is the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation which organized such huge events in the recent 15 years such as the World Men’s Elite Boxing Championships, the Youth World Boxing Championships and the European Games as well.
Host Azerbaijan, Hungary, Iran, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Poland, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are the participating eleven countries in the Great Silk Way Tournament in Baku. The competition is a preparation event for the upcoming 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event which will be starting in Bangkok, Thailand on May 23.
Uzbekistan’s 19-year-old Shakhina Nematova was the lone female Asian boxer in the finals of the Great Silk Way Tournament. She met Azerbaijan’s Zeynab Rakhimova at the women’s bantamweight (54kg) but the local boxer was slightly better in their meeting and Nematova claimed a silver medal in Baku.
The second part of the men’s semi-finals were also held in the fourth day of boxing and several of the Asian stars advanced to the title contests. Kazakhstan’s 2021 World Champion veteran Temirtas Zhussupov was quicker than Russia’s Adam Aliyev therefore the 36-year-old boxer will now meet Azerbaijan’s Khasan Malikov for the title.
Iran’s Mahdi Parvizi is a new addition to their elite national team but he had the skills to beat Russia’s Bair Botlayev in the semi-finals of the men’s flyweight (51kg), causing a surprise on Day4. The Iranian will be boxing for the title of the Great Silk Way Tournament with Uzbekistan’s Asian U22 Champion Asilbek Jalilov.
Kazakhstan’s Timur Kabdeshov is a 24-year-old boxer with a lot of international experience but his success over Russia’s Maksim Kuznetsov was a fantastic performance from the bantamweight (54kg) hopeful. The Kazakh will have a neighbor opponent, Uzbekistan’s Asian Youth Champion Khujanazar Nortojiyev in the upcoming final bout.
Uzbekistan’s Khudoynazar Fayzov had a brilliant year in 2017 when he won their Youth and Elite National Championships as well. The former WSB boxer returned to the squad at the featherweight (57kg) and he eliminated Kyrgyzstan’s Sanzhai Seidakmatov in one of the bouts of the day therefore Fayzov will face Azerbaijan’s Shamil Askerov for the gold medal.
Kazakhstan’s World Championships competitor Talgat Syrymbetov won the next top bout of the day against Uzbekistan’s super talented Bakhtiyor Asadov and he will be boxing for the lightweight (60kg) title with Azrak Babirov of Azerbaijan. Uzbekistan’s Abdullokh Madaminov is not experienced in the elite competitions yet but he eliminated Azerbaijan’s Malik Hasanov in the semi-final of the light welterweight (63.5kg). Iran’s Mehdi Amirizafar (67kg), Kazakhstan’s Darkhan Duisebay (71kg), Uzbekistan’s strong trio such as Bekzod Khamidov (71kg), Saidjamshid Jafarov (75kg) and Javokhir Ummataliyev (75kg) are all finalists in Baku.
