Pakistan and Turkmenistan won their first contests in Budva today

Pakistan and Turkmenistan won their first contests at the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Budva, Montenegro on Day4.

Afghanistan, China, DPR Korea, Hong Kong, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Palestine, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are the participating 13 Asian nations in the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships.

Altogether 73 nations and 593 boxers are participating in the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Budva which makes the event the biggest competition of the globe this year.

The Asian boxers started the first morning session strongly at the women’s lightweight (60kg), DPR Korea’s Rim Son Su dominated her Round of 16 preliminary bout against Greece’s Danai Zenounllari. China’s Wu Yuting dictated the tempo against Ireland’s Kayleigh Whelan and she stopped her opponent with attacking style of boxing.

Kazakhstan’s Tolganay Kassymkhan and Uzbekistan’s Rakhima Bekniyazova knew each other very well from competitions and training camps. The two-time Asian Champion Kassymkhan had to keep the focus until the last gong to win their amazing Round of 16 bout by 3:2 split decision.

Tajikistan’s Asian Youth competitor Bakhrombek Khatamov was not only taller than South Africa’s Blessing Nziyana but he had the advantage in punching power as well. The Tajik light middleweight (71kg) boxer decided his preliminary bout in the first round and he marched to the last 16 in this busy category.

Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion at the light middleweight (71kg), Oner Seilkhan did not underestimate his Belarusian opponent, Ivan Siniak. The 18-year-old Kazakh moved forward and he played his own game in this preliminary bout with confidence and perfect technical skills showing his potential for the gold medal.

Pakistan’s 17-year-old Shahzad Muhammad Ali competed in the 2023 Junior World Boxing Championships in Yerevan and he moved up from the lightweight (60kg) to the light middleweight (71kg) this year. The energetic Pakistani had a quick success over Australia’s Aadyn Hicks today and he won his first youth bout in 2024.

Kazakhstan’s Aruzhan Zhangabayeva had a great success in the Round of 32 at the women’s welterweight (63kg) and she won her second contest as well against Venezuela’s Clarielis Martinez. Another top Asian boxer in this weight class, DPR Korea’s Pak Sin A controlled all of the three rounds against Slovenia’s Naca Nikolov Veber.

Uzbekistan’s Nodirbek Allaberganov and Kazakhstan’s Aleksey Khavantsev both claimed gold medals in the annual ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships in Astana. The Uzbek moved up to the lightweight (60kg) in the previous weeks and he had the world-class performance to beat the 18-year-old Kazakh in the best bout of the day.

Tajikistan’s Damir Muybalikhonov, the Asian Youth bronze medallist, had the strong strategy against Poland’s Igor Soczowka and he followed it through the three rounds. The Tajik lightweight (60kg) boxer caught his Polish opponent with heavy shots in the second and third rounds and he joined the last 16.

DPR Korea’s Ri Hyok made a great start in the championship on Day1 and he moved forward against Kosovo’s Lumturim Xhoxhaj in their featherweight (57kg) meeting today. The DPR Korean switched into a higher tempo in the beginning of the second round and he had the physical condition to keep that level until the last seconds. Turkmenistan has a strong youth team but their boxers were unlucky in the draw and several of the bests in the line-ups lost the preliminaries. Ysmayyl Gurbanberdiyev not only used his height advantage in the first and second rounds against Estonia’s Roman Budikov but he attacked enough to win this featherweight (57kg) contest.
