Odayev and Nurmuhammedov will lead Team Turkmenistan with medal hopes in Chiang Mai
Turkmenistan selected seven boxers to the upcoming ASBC Asian Elite Men and Women Boxing Championships which will be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand from November 28.
Turkmenistan earned one bronze medal at the 2019 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Bangkok and they had also one achievement from the same medal at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou. The Turkmens had only quarter-finalists in the last 2022 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Amman and their goal is to earn medals in Chiang Mai.
Mr. Yazmuhammet Pazzyyev is the head coach of the elite national team who arranged strong preparations in the recent weeks. Mr. Merdan Annagulyyev and Mr. Tenilbek Dzhumakulov will support the Mr. Pazzyyev in the preparations and in the event. Their Secretary General, Mr. Durdymammet Kuljayev will be the team manager in the last top event of the year.
A 21-year-old boxer, Dovlet Muhanov replaced the World Olympic Qualifier quarter-finalist Shukur Ovezov at the featherweight (57kg) and he will be making a debut in this busy division in Chiang Mai.
Turkmenistan has strong traditions at the lightweight (60kg) and their new face in the national team, the 19-year-old Mukhammetguly Yklymov will represent the Central Asian boxing country in Chiang Mai.
Yslam Kerimov won his first national event in 2017 as a youth boxer and the 25-year-old light welterweight (63.5kg) hope decided to return to the international stage.
Their welterweight (67kg), the former ASBC Asian Youth silver medallist Saparmyrat Odayev is one of the top weapons in the national team who was quarter-finalist at the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Busto Arsizio and he is chasing his first medal in an ASBC Asian Elite Championships.
Bayramdurdy Nurmuhammedov is one of the top punchers at the light middleweight (71kg) who claimed a fantastic bronze medal at the Asian Games. He was one step away to qualify for the Paris Olympics twice but he failed these last contests therefore his motivation will be high in Chiang Mai.
Muhammet Babayev competed at the 2023 World Boxing Championships at the age of 19 and those experiences could be paid off in Chiang Mai. Turkmenistan’s light heavyweight (80kg) boxer will be the 21-year-old Arslan Nurchiyev who competed at the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships in Astana earlier this year.
