Nine Kazakhs advanced to the finals at the Algirdas Socikas Tournament

The Algirdas Socikas Tournament turned into its final phase in the city of Vilnius, Lithuania where Kazakhstan secured nine planes in the title contests.

The Six-time Soviet National Champion Mr. Algirdas Socikas was one of the heroes of Lithuania’s boxing life in the past who won the European Boxing Championships two-times in 1953 in Warsaw and repeated it in 1955 in West Berlin. Lithuania’s most important elite international boxing tournament was named after their national boxing icon who earned gold medals in several other events too.

Assylzhan Serikbay earned a bronze medal in the recent Kazakh National Championships and a gold at the annual Bocskai Memorial Tournament. The powerful boxer landed tough shots against Poland’s Pawel Brach and he joined the finals of the men’s featherweight (57kg) in the Socikas Tournament.

Kazakhstan’s next finalist is Almat Abduali, a young talent at the lightweight (60kg), who managed to win his difficult semi-final against Ukraine’s Tymur Boboshko. Following his split decision victory, Abduali will now meet for the gold medal Latvia’s best talent in our sport, Matvejs Prokudins.

Zhandos Kydyraliev has strong experience from different international competitions but he was not the favourite against Scotland’s World Championships bronze medallist and Commonwealth Games winner Reese Lynch at the light welterweight (63.5kg). The Kazakh boxer was slightly better in the exchanges than his Scottish No.1 and he will be meeting for the gold medal Ireland’s John Paul Hale.

Kazakhstan’s Youth World Championships silver medallist Yelnur Suyunbay is a tall boxer at the welterweight (67kg) and he became his nation’s next finalist in Kaunas. The 20-year-old boxer outpointed Ukraine’s Danylo Lozan and he used his distance well enough to advance to the finals where Poland’s ex-Kazakh Kirill Globenko will be his next rival.

Tursynbay Kulakhmet, the 2019 ASBC Asian Elite Champion, returned to the national team at the light heavyweight (80kg) and he managed to win his semi-final in Kaunas as well. The 30-year-old boxer won two out of the three rounds against Ukraine’s Matviy Razhba and he can expect a hard final against England’s Ramtin Musah.

Farrukh Tokhtasunov eliminated one of the best Lithuanian boxers, Aleksandr Trofimcuk at the light middleweight (71kg) and he secured his place in the finals. Azamat Bektas (75kg) and the veteran Abzal Kuttybekov (86kg) became Kazakhstan’s next finalists in this traditional European boxing event.

Daniyal Sabit, the 2021 Asian Elite Boxing Championships silver medallist, is only 22-year-old but he has plenty of international experience from various events. The flyweight (51kg) boxer claimed a bronze medal in the Algirdas Socikas Tournament following his tight 3:2 semi-final loss to Wales’ Scott Richards.
