Nepal’s female heroes will participate at the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event

One of the promising countries, Nepal will compete with two female and two male boxers at the upcoming 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event which will be held in Bangkok, Thailand from May 24.

The 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event is the last opportunity for all of competitors to earn quotas for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Nepal earned a historic silver medal at the 2023 edition of the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships in Bangkok last January which was the country’s first ever final bout in such a huge international competition.

Nepal had another impressive and historic step in 2023, one of their female boxers, the 25-year-old Anjani Teli reached the quarter-finals at the last edition of the Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi, India.

Nepal sent maximum number of 13 boxers to the Asian Games for the very first time which showed their huge development and commitment to boxing. Some of them reached the quarter-finals in Hangzhou but the country is waiting for its first Asian Games boxing medals since 2006 when Deepak Maharjan bagged a bronze.

Susma Tamang, their Asian U22 Championships silver medallist is only 22-year-old but she is member of their elite national team since 2021. The light flyweight (50kg) boxer has excellent speed and footwork therefore she has the potential to beat the bests of the category.

Anjani Teli has Indian roots but she represents Nepal in the international stage since 2022 when she joined their elite national team. The strong bantamweight (54kg) boxer is another strong prospect in Nepal where women’s boxing is in promising stage.

Chandra Bahadur Thapa won his first contest at the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event against a more experienced Tajik boxer in Busto Arsizio. He will be boxing at the men’s flyweight (51kg) in Bangkok while a debutant, Prakash Limbu Ijam received the right to compete at the light welterweight (63.5kg).
