Nepal selected seven boxers to participate at the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships
Nepal will send seven boxers to the upcoming ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships to Astana, Kazakhstan. Nepal’s target is to get a medal in the competition to continue their pathway which they opened at the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships in Bangkok this January.
Nepal competed with maximum number of 13 boxers in the Asian Games for the very first time which shows their strong commitment to the sport and the continuous progress. Nepal has strong future plans and programs to join the best countries in the Asian continent and earn an Olympic spot.
Their national selection competition was held in Kathmandu during the Asian Games and the local organizers arranged four sessions in this event. All of their best 15, 16, 17 and 18-year-old talents competed in the selections and among them coach Mr. Deepak Maharjan and the management selected seven boxers to participate in Astana.
Nepal will have two youth girls in the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships in Astana, Roshani Ghalan (50kg) and Swastika Tiruwa (54kg). Tiruwa is their most experienced female talent who claimed a bronze medal at the 2021 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships in Dubai. The 17-year-old boxer from Nepal has amazing technical skills and she has the experience to be successful in her next medal hunt.
Nepal sent boxers to the junior men’s level for the first time in 2017 when the competition was held in Puerto Princesa. Their best junior male boxer, Baidhya Suryan (80kg) has been selected to participate in Astana and he has also medal expectations in the event.
The youth male squad contains four boxers, Prabal Upreti (51kg), Cherring Sherpa Wangdi (57kg), Reejan Ghonte Gurung (63.5kg) and Dhiraj Gurung (71kg) are ready to compete against the bests of the Asian continent.
Among them Cherring Sherpa Wangdi represented Nepal at the 2019 ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships in Kuwait City and also at the 2022 ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships in Amman.
