Nepal Boxing Federation sent 8-strong team to the boxing tournament of the Asian Games

Nepal Boxing Federation has done great efforts in the recent two years to develop our sport in all regions of their country and sends out their boxers to every important Asian event. The mountain kingdom will be attending in the boxing tournament of the Asian Games with bigger delegation and their boxers are ready to produce surprises in Jakarta.
Nepal will be sending record number of 8 boxers to the Asian Games including three women and five men to Jakarta. Nepal took altogether six bronze medals in the history of the Asian Games in boxing. Their last boxing medal in the Asian Games was achieved by Deepak Maharjan in the Guangzhou 2010 edition who is now coach in the national team.
Nepal’s boxing team attended in the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament in Bangkok as last preparation event. Nepal’s boxing squad prepared in Thailand before the start of the Asian Games with the support of the Thailand Boxing Federation. The Asian Games is a strong road for them to the 2019 South Asian Games which will be held in their capital city in Kathmandu next March.
Bimala Shrestha moved down to the flyweight (51kg) in the recent months and fought out her place in the travelling team following the 24-year-old boxer claimed gold medal at the National Selection Trials. South Asian Games competitor Sangita Sunar also moved down one category and will be attending at the featherweight (57kg) of the Asian Games.
Their third woman boxer in the team will be 22-year-old Punam Rawal who was quarter-finalist in the last edition of the Ho Chi Minh City 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships and will be attending at the lightweight (60kg). She defeated a strong and experienced boxer AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships competitor Saraswati Rana Magar in the National Selection Trials.
Tej Bahadur Deuba is the best man boxer in Nepal who was quarter-finalist in the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament and used his quick footwork to show his strong technique in Bangkok. The experienced light flyweight (49kg) boxer is expecting a good result in the Asian Games where he could be a surprise.
ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships competitor Prem Chaudhary regained his place in the national team and will be attending at the flyweight (52kg) in Jakarta. National Champion and National Games silver medallist Bhupendra Thapa took part in the Incheon 2014 Asian Games and the light welterweight (64kg) boxer has been preparing to his second participation in the multisport event.
Bishnu Prasad Ghale is a veteran boxer who attended in the last two editions of the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament and the experienced athlete will be Nepal’s welterweight (69kg) hope in Jakarta. Nepal’s Deepak Shrestha attended in two editions of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships and also in the Almaty 2013 AIBA World Boxing Championships therefore he knows the international environment.
