Nepal, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Chinese Taipei and Kazakhstan were on the top at the ISF Gymnasiade
Eleven Asian boxers were crowned in the boxing competition of the ISF Gymnasiade in Manama, Bahrain. Among them Chinese Taipei’s Shen Sin Ai was the biggest name but Nepal’s, Bahrain’s and United Arab Emirates’ gold medals also delighted the boxing fans in their countries.
The multisport event had boxing in the official program and forty-one finals took place in the last competition day in Bahrain. The last edition of the ISF Gymnasiade delivered strong results for Kazakhstan, Brazil, France, Chinese Taipei, Spain, and Hungary in 2022 while this time Azerbaijan, Ukraine and others also joined them with top achievements.
Several of the developing boxing nations such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Nepal, United Arab Emirates, and host Bahrain competed in the event with big delegations. The local organizers were waiting for more than 200 boxers in Bahrain and several of the weight classes had Round of 16 bouts as well.
Chinese Taipei’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion Shen Sin Ai amazed in her next international event once again and she defeated Azerbaijan’s Aysun Mikayilova at the women’s junior light bantamweight (52kg).
Nepal’s ASBC medallist Swastika Tiruwa dominated her final against Brazil’s Perolla Nascimento Oliveira at the women’s bantamweight (54kg) and her gold medal was a historic success for the South Asian country. Nepal’s Norbu Thendup Sherpa delivered the country’s second title after beating Brazil’s Walifer Rezende Da Cruz among the younger hopes.
Chinese Taipei earned two further titles at the ISF Gymnasiade, firstly Wang Chih Hsien defeated Ukraine’s 17-year-old Polina Dovkhinka at the women’s featherweight (57kg), secondly Yang Ya Wen was too smart for Brazil’s Rayani Victoria Andrade Ribeiro at the women’s light welterweight (63kg).
Bahrain’s lone gold medal in the boxing event was achieved by Mohamed Mehdi Sahak who triumphed over United Arab Emirates’ Bader Saeed Al Sedrani at the men’s featherweight (57kg), making the local fans proud.
Kazakhstan’s Askar Kuanysh trains with a famous coach, Mr. Damir Budanbekov in the Dzhambul region and his current boxing skills overmatched Armenia’s Hayk Tadevosyan’s ones at the men’s welterweight (67kg). Kazakhstan’s next talent, Arystan Bitekenov from the Kostanay region, controlled of the exchanges against Brazil’s Leandro Conceicao Santos at the light middleweight (71kg) final.
Kazakhstan’s Daniyal Kaldykhan defeated Ivan Khanych of Ukraine men’s middleweight (75kg) before their Junior Nationals silver medallist Aydamir Sautbek succeeded in the next final. He moved back to the light heavyweight (80kg) but he looked stronger and enough fresh to beat Romania’s Robert Cucu in their final meeting.
Following their silver medal, United Arab Emirates’ Orkhan Aghayev achieved a gold medal in the super heavyweight (+92kg) final, outpointing Bahrain’s Abdel Rahman Sooman.
Qatar’s Youssef Mohamed El-Sayed earned a historic silver medal at the men’s lightweight (60kg) in the ISF Gymnasiade while Faris Ali Al-Thani (+80kg) claimed another bronze after his first in Al Ain.
