Myanmar goes perfect on SEA Games Day 2

Myanmar took three wins in as many bouts on the second day of the 2023 Southeast Asian Games boxing tournament at the Chroy Changvar Convention Centre in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
National Championships’ best boxer Saw Bwe Klo crushed East Timor’s Alexandre Meliano Da Costa Freitas, 5-0, to open his men’s light welterweight (63.5kg) campaign on a strong note.
Lin Htut Paing opened the second session with a third-round RSC victory over Laos’ Vanesy Heuangthisouan in the flyweight (51kG) division.
New female national team member Kay Thwe Nyein also enjoyed a triumphant opener after a dominant 5-0 showing at the expense of Cambodia’s Eh Priyanut Phouthong in light welterweight (63kg).
Meanwhile, the Philippines’ two-time men’s flyweight defending champion Rogen Ladon secured a bronze as he scored a hard-earned 5-0 win against Indonesia’s Ingatan Ilahi.
Thailand’s 2021 World Boxing Championships bronze medalist Thanarat Saengphet proved he is one of the favorites in flyweight as the 20-year-old thrashed East Timor’s Elidio Da Conceicao, 5-0.
Philippines’ featherweight (57kg) titleholder Ian Clark Bautista stopped Vietnam’s Tokyo Olympian Nguyen Van Duong in the third round while Indonesia’s national winner Asri Udin trounced Cambodia’s Vanna Liheang, 5-0, to enter the semifinals.
Thailand’s reigning light welterweight (63.5kg) champ Somchay Wongsuwan waylaid Malaysia’s Mohammad Akram Bin Rasit, 5-0, even as Cambodia’s ex-Cuban Ratha Ven, a silver finisher in the 2015 SEA Games, stunned the Philippines’ former winner James Palicte, 4-1. The Philippines’ Thailand Open Tournament winner Riza Pasuit pulled off a split decision win against Indonesia’s Asian Games bronze medalist Huswatun Hasanah in the women’s light welterweight.
