Musurmonova, Mamatova, and Tulegenova were the stars at the Uzbekistan Women’s Junior National Championships
The Uzbekistan Women’s Junior National Championships crowned 14 champions and several of them are among the bests in the whole world in their weight categories.
The new edition of the Uzbekistan Women’s Junior National Championships was held in Ishtykhan city in the Samarkand region for the very first time. The local team earned four gold medals in the junior competition and ranked as No.1 ahead of the Ferghana and Namangan regions.
The competition was a selection for their main goals in 2024, to the ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships which is scheduled to be hosted in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates in the second part of August after the Paris Olympics.
Boxers who were born in 2008 and in 2009 were eligible to participate in this strong junior national event. Altogether 155 girls competed in 14 categories from all regions of the country in the Uzbekistan Women’s Junior National Championships.
The first winner of the event was Bakhoroy Koshobokova from the city of Dzhizak where the female boxing schools are one of the strongest ones in Uzbekistan. She had a very difficult final against Samarkand’s Sabina Chakamanova but she won that bout by 3:2 split decision.
Samarkand’s Junior World silver medallist Maftuna Musurmonova is one of the stars in junior boxing, not only in Uzbekistan but in the entire globe as well therefore her success at the pinweight (46kg) was not a surprise. The reigning Asian Junior Champion was too smart for Namangan’s Mokhidil Kamoliddinova in the final bout.
Namangan’s Mukhtasar Aliyeva won already international competitions as well and she had the strong performance to beat Akmaral Sultangaliyeva at the light flyweight (48kg). Navoy’s Robiya Ravshanova, the last year’s silver medallist from the Asian Junior Championships, bagged the next title following her triumph over Bibisora Mirzanabiyeva.
Samarkand’s Sevara Mamatova won the featherweight (57kg) at the 2023 Junior World Boxing Championships and she moved up to the lightweight (60kg) after that success. The 15-year-old boxer was in different level than any of her rivals and stopped Zarnigor Narzullayeva in the first round of their final.
The Asian Junior Championships runner-up Aselya Tulegenova from the Tashkent region, defeated a top opponent, the national team member Khadijabonu Bekova at the welterweight (66kg). Bukhara’s Maftuna Yangiyeva, the Junior World Championships silver medallist and the Asian Junior Champion, dominated the middleweight (75kg) in this event.
