Mrs. Terezie Krejbychova – Tajikistan and Iran were the surprises for me in Al Ain and I am proud of the two award-winning R&Js

Mrs. Terezie Krejbychova worked as a Referee & Judge Evaluator at the recent ASBC Asian Junior & Schoolgirls & Schoolboys Boxing Championships which was held in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. The Asian Boxing Confederation arranged an interview with the Czech boxing official after the competition.

Mrs. Terezie Krejbychova worked as a Referee & Judge in the past and she switched to an International Technical Official (ITO) in the previous years. The Czech official worked an Asian Boxing Championships in 2023 and she returned to the Confederation’s new event with great enthusiasm.

“To be honest, my expectations were high because I know that the level of the Asian Championships is high, so I expected perfect organization and high level of sports performance. That was confirmed. The organisers did a great job. The venue was perfectly equipped, the environment was beautiful, the atmosphere for the athletes was, in my opinion, absolutely perfect.

I traditionally expected a high number of medals from nations like Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, India, so there was no surprise here, because I know the level of their boxers from other competitions of the highest level. A very pleasant surprise for me was Tajikistan and Iran. I was very impressed with them and I believe that we will hear more about these boxers. I was curious about Ukraine’s participation because as a European, I know them from many tournaments and I know they have a strong team. Although they have limited opportunities at the moment, I expected them to bring a strong team, so their medal success was not a surprise either.

The team from Iran was a new favourite of mine, not only for their fantastic sporting performances, but also for the behaviour of their coaches, which was a textbook example of sportsmanship, respect and dignity.

Following all of these experiences in Al Ain, I believe that Asia has a great future in organising such events if it remains united.

A definite positive was the great atmosphere in Al Ain, the sporting performances were of a really high standard and I personally still very much appreciate the punctuality and adherence to the schedule and rules of the competition. Negative? Perhaps only that I was sometimes cold in the hall, as I sat there all day on a chair 🙂

If you’re really asking about my strongest personal moment, it’s that I was able to show my daughter the unique atmosphere, fairness, friendly environment, high sport supreme class level and amazing people she was able to meet, experience and engage with, being part of the whole event. I really appreciate this opportunity, I am very grateful for it and this made this championship unforgettable for me.

The work of the R&Js was very challenging because it was actually two championships at once. I have to say that they did a great job in the competition. There was not a single sign of deliberate hesitation. They all tried to show that they really deserved to be at such an important championship, and they did it. With young boxers, total professionalism is absolutely crucial, because kids and young people will not forgive you for a mistake or an injustice, even an unintentional one. And I’m also proud of the two award-winning R&Js. Even though they are not among the most experienced R&Js in the world, they did a job that can be compared to them.

We can always improve the standard of an event, but what is more important at this point is that the tension between people and the fear of an uncertain future disappear. I would really like to see that,” said Mrs. Terezie Krejbychova following her return to the Czech Republic.
