Mr. Somchai Poolsawat – We are planning to host 10 events in Thailand next year
Thailand Boxing Federation’s team opened the AIBA World Boxing Championships with several successes and their boxers showed impressive developments in terms of defence, speed, and tactical skills.
The Vice-President of the Thailand Boxing Federation Mr. Somchai Poolsawat followed the bouts from the venue of the competition and replied to our questions regarding the country’s boxing life. Mr. Somchai Poolsawat spent most of his time in the Muak Lek Training Centre to follow and support the team’s preparations in the recent months.
The current Thai team is one of the youngest ones in Asia and they have the potential to be one of the top nations in the upcoming years. Despite of AIBA Youth World Champion promising star Thitisan Panmod’s, ASBC Asian Youth Champion Sarawut Sukthet’s and Asian Games gold medallist Wuttichai Masuk’s injuries the Thai team arrived with a powerful squad to the Serbian capital.
“We had strong preparations for this AIBA World Boxing Championships and we hope our national team can impress in Belgrade. We have a strong coaching staff and we all worked hard in the recent months, despite of the hard circumstances due to the pandemic.
We have big plans in Thailand for 2022, we are planning to host 10 events in the country, national events for junior, youth and elite boxers, furthermore an international elite event which we called as Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament in 2018 and in 2019.
We are in the discussion with the Royal Family to rename our Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament to King’s Cup which was the name of the event in the previous decades. We are planning to host out prestigious international tournament in 2022 as one of the preparations to the Asian Games. We are analysing the movements, footwork and fighting style of the best boxers in the world to adopt them. The International Boxing Academy will be built in the upcoming three years which is our next big project,” summarized Thailand’s plans Mr. Somchai Poolsawat.
