Mr. Serik Konakbayev arrived to the AIBA EC Meeting to the place of his previous successes to Moscow
President of the Asian Boxing Confederation and AIBA Vice-President Mr. Serik Konakbayev arrived to the Russian capital to Moscow where he will be taking part in the AIBA Executive Committee Meeting.
The AIBA Executive Committee Meeting will be the next step in the first year of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic era where the officials will be decided several important topics including the Olympic weight classes in Japan in 2020.
Moscow is a very special place for Mr. Serik Konakbayev where he lived and spent his young ages during his boxing career. Mr. Serik Konakbayev was born in Pavlodar, Kazakhstan but as member of the Soviet national team with his Kazakh teammates such as Serik Nurkazov, Beybut Yeszhanov, Viktor Demyanenko and Karimzhan Abdrakhmanov, he spent a lot of time in Moscow.
Furthermore Moscow was an important pathway in his boxing career where he achieved silver medal before his 21st birthday. Mr. Serik Konakbayev defeated such strong rivals as Romania’s Simion Cutov, Hungary’s Imre Bacskai, Puerto Rico’s Jose Molina and Cuba’s Jose Aguilar in the road to the final of the Moscow 1980 Olympic Games. In the final of the light welterweight (63.5kg) he lost to only Italy’s Patrizio Oliva who won also the Val Barker Trophy in the Russian capital.
