Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira welcoming IOC’s decision that boxing is officially involved to the program of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games 2028

The International Olympic Committee’s Director General Mr. Christophe De Kepper confirmed that boxing will be involved in the official program of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games which was pending in the recent one year. ASBC President Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira thanks to the IOC’s decision for taking care of the boxers and their pursuit of the Olympic dreams.

The exact boxing program, the weight classes of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games are not known yet but there is enough time to fix that. Gender equality and fair judging will be the key factors of the 2028 Olympic program.

Boxing was on the schedule of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games but the Qualifiers and the Olympics will be administered and hosted by the International Olympic Committee’s task force, the Paris 2024 Boxing Unit. The International Olympic Committee informed all of the National Olympic Committees and Boxing Federations in 2022 that boxing is still not involved in the provisional program of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The International Olympic Committee withdrew the recognition of IBA in June 2019 and expelled the organization this Thursday. The management of the Asian Boxing Confederation, the President and the Board of Directors met in a specific meeting in Bangkok on Thursday and Friday following the IOC’s decision.

The Asian Boxing Confederation launched a statement answering all of the issues and questions informing the Asian affiliated National Federations on Friday following IBA being expelled by the International Olympic Committee two days ago.

The ASBC Board of Directors including the ASBC President Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira committed to support our boxers in their pursuit of the Olympic dream and asked an ASBC Extraordinary Congress to amend the ASBC Statutes. The venue and the date of the Congress will be known shortly. ASBC President Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira attended the Olympic Day yesterday with several officials together following the ASBC Statement.

The first Olympic Qualifier for the Asian boxers for the next Paris Olympics will be held at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China starting from September 23. Twenty female and fourteen male boxers will earn their Paris 2024 Olympic spots during the boxing tournament of the Asian Games.
