Mr. Mohamed Kamel Shbib – Good standard of boxing and great local organizers in Al Ain

Syria’s Mr. Mohammed Kamel Shbib worked as the Deputy Technical Delegate in the recent ASBC Asian Junior & Schoolgirls & Schoolboys Boxing Championships which was held in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. The Asian Boxing Confederation arranged an interview with him who has nearly 50 years of experience as an official in boxing.

Mr. Mohamed Kamel Shbib is the President in Syria’s boxing since the 1980s and he hold several key positions in various committees and boards in Asia. He began his R&J work still in the 1970s and he worked in several Olympic Games as a referee and as a jury member. Mr. Shbib officiated dozens of Asian Boxing Championships in all age groups during his long career in the boxing world.

“We had a long but successful championship in Al Ain, it was a very hard job for all of us and after that I needed some rest. We had a fantastic local organizing committee in Al Ain and we are so grateful for their hard work in this event.

I was not expecting that huge number of countries and boxers in these championships but they are the future in Asia’s boxing life.

The Asian Boxing Confederation guaranteed for these young athletes the possibility to increase their international experience in these major events which are the grassroots for us. These schoolgirls, schoolboys and junior girls and boys will be our future heroes.

All of the officials, ITOs, referees and judges, staff members worked hard everyday to make this championship a remarkable one. We had long competition days therefore we had to keep our concentration on the top in all sessions to arrange the fair play for all boxers.

I was surprised about the high level of boxing among the schoolgirls and schoolboys, especially in the smaller weight classes. I recognised very good technical and tactical levels among these girls and boys and we were very happy to see them in Al Ain.

We had very good standard in these championships and the participation of the Ukrainian team made this event a top one. If we put the positive and negative things in the scale, there is a big difference to the positive sides of the event. The Asian Boxing Confederation and its staff are hard-working people and their commitment means that Asia is the leader in the boxing world.

We will organize the Syrian Women’s Elite & Youth & Junior National Championships in October but before that we have an important event, the Mohammed Alaijam Memorial Tournament in the city of Aleppo. He was one of our heroes in the 1950s and we will remember to his greatness with this event,” said Mr. Mohamed Kamel Shbib after the competition from Damascus.
