Mr. John Waith lauds ASBC, TBA for successful staging of Asian U22 Boxing Championships
Welsh boxing official Mr. John Waith commended the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) and Thailand Boxing Association (TBA) for the successful hosting of the ASBC Asian U22 Championships 2023 in Bangkok.
Mr. Waith served as the Observer of the tournament, working together with fellow tournament officials Mrs. Karina Picson, Mr. Hemantha Weerasinghe, Mrs. Sadie Duffy and Mr. Lenny D’Gama.
“The level of the organization at the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships was outstanding, at par with any tournament I have ever been to. The ASBC and Thailand Boxing Association are very experienced in all aspects of running a tournament like this,” said Waith.
How do I feel personally working in Bangkok? I have worked in Bangkok and Thailand many times, as a 3-star RJ and an ITO, and it is always a pleasure,The Thailand Boxing Federation and the ASBC are so hospitable, I enjoy every moment. One of the best moments was the award of medals to the Boxers and you reflect on how good your team of officials worked to get the right
The biggest strength for this ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships was the organisational side of all things. I could not fault it, everything was perfect, it must have taken a lot of hard work to get it so right.
He lauded the fair officiating of matches, particularly from the ones who underwent the 2-star International Boxing Association (IBA) Referee & Judge course.
“There were some very close bouts, but for me all decisions were correct. My work as the Observer for the Tournament is to Observe the the scores of the Judges as well as the Evaluators. I also evaluate the Evaluators, to have meetings every day with them, Mrs. Sadie Duffy & Mr. Lenny D’Gama. We make any sanctions we feel necessary to the RJs, The we met with the Technical Delegate, the very experienced Mrs. Karina Picson and the draw commission Mr. Hemantha Weerasinghe to discuss the day’s session and make any sanctions necessary.
This was a IBA R&J 2-star course, we had 1-star and 3 star R&Js working together in Bangkok. We finished the ITO Course with a very informative presentation by the ringside doctor, Mr. Ahmad Khatatbeh, special thanks to him.
Waith also pointed out the talent and attitude of the boxers from the 20 participating countries, namely Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, host Thailand, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
“These participating boxers were under 22, but they were so professional in the way they boxed and their attitude. They looked more experienced than their age, we saw some brilliant boxing, that is why Asia are up there on top of the list of best boxers in the world.
The renowned official out of Wales is looking forward to overseeing more ASBC competitions this year.
My plans for 2023 in boxing, hopefully the same as in 2022, we are never appointed to a competition or course in advance of one month, but what ever comes I am always glad to accept it,”
