Mr. Chaiwat Chotima – We had short time to prepare for the Asian Championships but we worked hard to arrange a top event

Mr. Chaiwat Chotima of Thailand, the ASBC Honorary Vice-President followed several competition days at the ASBC Asian Elite Men and Women Boxing Championships in Chiang Mai, Thailand in the recent two weeks.
Mr. Chaiwat Chotima shared his opinion about the competition, the performance of the Asian and the Thai boxers and also about their hard work to arrange a top event within very short period of time.
Host Team Thailand claimed nine medals in the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships including three gold in the women’s part of the event.
Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, host Thailand, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Vietnam were the 21 participating nations in the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships and among them 15 bagged medals.
“We have tried to do our best to organize the best ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Chiang Mai. We had only 20 days to prepare for this championship after the competition has been moved from Amman to Thailand.
Chiang Mai is a unique host and we decided to arrange the event in North Thailand where all of the facilities and the hotels are perfect for an ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships. My team worked hard in the recent weeks to keep the level of the Thai hospitality before, during and after the event.
The level of the Asian boxers is very high and we could watch plenty of impressive contests in Chiang Mai. Several of the boxers qualified and competed in the Olympic Games as well and despite that they were not in top shape yet, they delivered their best in the event and we could see also new champions.
To be honest we were not enough satisfied with the performance of the Thai team during the Olympic Games in Paris. We had several quotas, we made good qualification events but the Thai squad earned only one bronze medal in Paris.
We have to think about it with President Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira to make different strategies and preparations for the upcoming big events as the SEA Games, Asian Games and Olympic Games.
Most of our boxers rested after the Paris Olympics and they were not in top form in Chiang Mai yet as they had shortened preparation period for the Asian Championships. We earned three gold medals among the women boxers which is a good start in the new cycle but we have to work hard for the further top achievements,” said Mr. Chaiwat Chotima after the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships.
