Mr. Andrew Caulfield – The future is still bright in Asia

The feedbacks of the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships are positive and the officials are analyzing the competition. Mr. Andrew Caulfield is one of the constant participants of the Asian Championships and he supported the success of the championships in Astana once again.

The Scottish official worked as Observer in the recent ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships as in several previous editions. He shared his opinions and thoughts about the championships, the work of the referees and judges and Kazakhstan pre-called nice boxing memories from Mr. Caulfield.

“It was a great honour for me to observer once again in an Asian Boxing Championships. Representing ASBC to ensure rules, regulations and fair play for all are the key objectives in the championships. The Kazakh LOC was very well organized in this championship.

It brought back great memories for me on a personal note as I refereed many great boxers during the London Olympics and the 2013 Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships in Kazakhstan including Ivan Dychko and other stars.

It was great to meet Mr. Serik Sapiyev, Kazakhstan’s former Olympic Champion, World Champion and Asian Games winner. I refereed him on his way to the Olympic gold in London where he got the Val Barker Trophy as well.

It is critical to make key decisions to maintain a positive and ethical work with the ITOs and Referees & Judges. It is crucial for the Referees & Judges to continue high level of work from the start until the end of the championships.

Meetings were conducted every day and we discussed various situations from the previous sessions to support the work of the R&Js. The Evaluators also supported the Referees & Judges during the whole championships.

This championship was a great education opportunity for all of the officials in Astana and we followed their performance on a daily basis. All of the Referees & Judges made great improvements and contribution day by day in the competition.

Boxers and coaches were definitely on a high level and bares well for the future. To be honest I was so impressed how the coaches supported their young boxers and cared for them in winning and defeat.

I was amazed how some nations reached the finals in this strong championship such as Iran, Iraq and Tajikistan. When watching these boxers looked like elites and definitely not juniors. It was great to present awards to boxers and the referees and judges during the medal ceremonies. The ASBC showed huge opportunities to the boxing world and the future is still bright in Asia,” summarized the championships Mr. Andrew Caulfield.
