Merlin Tomatala, Yosua Holy Masihor and Asri Udin won the closest finals at the Indonesian National Games
Nine women and eleven men boxers celebrated their gold medals at the Indonesian National Games in Pematang Siantar City following all of the 20 finals have been concluded in the island of Sumatra.
Finally 31 teams competed to the National Games from all of the most important regions of the country, Java, Sumatra, Maluku, Papua, Bali, Sulawesi, Kalimantan and the capital team from Jakarta during the 10-days long busy competition.
The team from the Aceh region and the Sumatra island squad both contained 20-20 boxers in the National Games. More than 200 boxers, finally 91 female and 116 male elite pugilists competed in the new edition of the Indonesian National Games which was a selection for them before the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships.
Merlin Tomatala had a hectic but successful final against the favourite of the women’s minimumweight (48kg), Endang in the opening bout of the last session. Israellah B. Saweho accomplished her target, the gold medal at the light flyweight (50kg) following she stopped Zalza Nabila Amoragam in the final.
Aldriani Beatrichx Suguro is a well-experienced boxer, she was quarter-finalist already at the 2014 Women’s World Boxing Championships and her return was successful against Ayu Pramustika. Novita Sinadia (54kg) and Ratna Sari Devi (57kg) also used up their international routines to beat their final opponents, Alfianita Kartika Manopo and Erniati Ngongo.
Huswatun Hasanah, the Asian Games bronze medallist, is Indonesia’s most decorated female boxer who had a tough final at the light welterweight (63kg) against Dominika Asnat Bayo but she defended her throne. Veterans such as Christina Marwan Jembay (66kg) and Welmy Pariama (70kg) moved up several weight categories this year but their decisions have paid off in their respective finals in the National Games.
The SEA Games silver medallist Dio Koebanu knocked out and stopped his previous rivals at the men’s minimumweight (48kg) but the 20-year-old powerful talent had a more difficult job against Exel Gerald Karimela in the final. Following his 4:1 split decision success, Ingatan Ilahi demonstrated his excellent technical skills against Duta Fadillah Simatupang at the flyweight (51kg).
Yosua Holy Masihor represented Indonesia in the last edition of the Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships in Tashkent but his success over the SEA Games winner Aldoms Suguro at the bantamweight (54kg) was one of the main surprises in the event.
Indonesia’s Asian Games competitor, the DKI Jakarta’s Asri Udin had one of the tightest successes in the event against the National Champion Nolvy Engkeng at the featherweight (57kg). The Asian Games quarter-finalist 31-year-old Farrand Papendang celebrated a tactical success over Bali’s Jekri Riwu at the light welterweight (63.5kg).
Another veteran, the 33-year-old Matius Mandiangan also won a title in the National Games, he defeated Libertus Gha at the welterweight (67kg). The big puncher, Sarohatua Lumbantobing (71kg), the former Asian Games quarter-finalist 35-year-old Vinky Montolalu (75kg), Bram Hendra Betaubun (80kg) and the SEA Games winner Maikhel Roberrd Muskita (86kg) controlled the heavier weight classes.
