Malaysia will send two boxers to the Asian Games

The Malaysians decided to send their two top male boxers to the upcoming Asian Games which will start in Hangzhou, China next month. The Malaysians had strong results in the recent two editions of the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships and their current No.1, Muhammad Abdul Qaiyum Bin Ariffin will be their flag bearer in Hangzhou.

The Malaysian Boxing Federation’s first event in 2023, their National Cup took place for their elite male boxers in Negeri Sembilan a few months ago and served as one of the first selection events. The Malaysian National Golden Gloves and the Malaysian National Championships were also supported the decision makers to select the team for Hangzhou. 

The Malaysians competed at the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships in Bangkok this January and their boxers participated in the Southeast Asian Games as well. Their program was busy in 2022 with participations in the ASBC Asian Boxing Championships, Southeast Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.

Muhammad Abdul Qaiyum Bin Ariffin competed five top championships within 12 months including the Commonwealth Games and the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships. He is the most experienced boxer in the national team despite the fact, that he was born in 2001. The ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships bronze medallist athlete will represent Malaysia at the men’s flyweight (51kg) and the 22-year-old boxer could be competitive for all of the stars.  

Mohamed Aswan Bin Che Azmi has been selected at the men’s light middleweight (71kg) who has seven years of experiences in the national stage. He competed for Malaysia at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games and at the 2022 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Amman. Mohamed Aswan Bin Che Azmi delivered sensational performance at the annual Malaysian National Cup in Negeri Sembilan which was a selection event.
