Maghsoudi, Sepehr deliver KOs, grab Iranian Military titles
Top boxers Moslem Maghsoudi and Ali Sepehr came through with sensational knockout victories to reign supreme in the Iranian Military National Championships held recently in the city of Anzali, Gilan Province.
Army’s national team veteran Maghsoudi, a quarterfinalist in the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships, destroyed Yaser Bayat of Defense Force in the light middleweight (71kg) final. It was another national title for Maghsoudi, who bagged his first back in 2016.
For his part, fellow Army bet and Asian Youth Championships 2018 bronze medalist Sepehr smashed Sajad Akbari of Navy in the super heavyweight (+92kg) class.
The first winner of the national event was Jasem Hemati of the Army who stopped Navy’s Erfan Nabilou at the flyweight (51kg). Mahdi Goodarzi was the favourite for the gold medal at the bantamweight (54kg) but he lost to Saeid Azizi of Army Forces in one of the most exciting final contests of the national event.
Defense Forces’ Mehran Dashti, Mahdi Tajik and Majid Seydali all won their weight categories in the Military National Championships. Dashti’s opponent, Mohammad Mozafari of Army abandoned their final contest at the featherweight (57kg), while his teammates also dominated their title bouts.
Several more champions were crowned in the latest edition of the Military National Championships joined by elite boxers from the Army, Navy, Defense Force and Air Force.
Army topped the event with eight gold medals while Defense snagged the remaining four golds. The Iranians arranged a national selection tournament in January and a competition for their youngest age group, the future hopes in February. Their next activity was the Military National Championships in Anzali.
