Maghsoudi, Abdolmaleki triumph in Iranian national qualifier
Moslem Maghsoudi and Pouria Abdolmaleki came out victorious in the Iranian National Qualifying Tournament, the first elite event organized by the Iranian Boxing Federation this year, which was held in Tehran.
Veteran boxer Maghsoudi managed to pull off a 3-2 split decision victory against Mehdi Sarbaz in their tight light middleweight (71kg) final bout.
Rising pug Abdolmaleki, on the other hand, became the main sensation after stunning the seasoned national team standout Sajad Mohammadpour via a 4-0 win in the featherweight (57kg) class.
Mazandaran’s Seyed Arsham Hasani was the first winner of the Iranian National Qualifying Tournament in Tehran. The young boxer defeated Artin Gheliyeh of Kordistan in the final of the minimumweight (48kg).
Kordistan’s Mehdi Khosravi was a surprise winner in the 2022 Iranian Elite National Championships and he participated at the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships. Khosravi is a real fighter and proved his strong skills against Mohammad Hasein Haghi in the final of the bantamweight (54kg).
Lorestan’s Behnam Ebrahimi won the lightweight (60kg) following his success over Ali Goudarzi in the final. Seyed Ali Akbar Mirahmadi was not able to box in the final of the light welterweight (63.5kg) therefore Tehran’s Sajad Ebadi Pour won the title in the qualifying event.
Ali Habibi Nezhad represented Iran as a youth boxer in the international stage in 2016 and he needed six years to reach the level of the top elite athletes. The 24-year-old boxer controlled the welterweight (67kg) final against Hossein Jedi and remained on the top in Iran.
Nine other fighters triumphed in the tilt held in Tehran that served as a national selection for upcoming international competitions including the World Championships, ASBC events and Asian Games.
Iranian Boxing Federation’s new Interim President Rohollah Hosseini, who took over since Hossein Souri left the country last year, led the staging of the selection.
