Kazakhstan’s defending champion Aruzhan Zhangabayeva won her tough quarter-final in Amman

The women’s junior boxers began their campaigns in the third competition day of the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships in Amman, Jordan where 25 bouts were on the schedule of Day3. All of the winners advanced to the semi-finals and they are guaranteed medallists in Amman. Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion Aruzhan Zhangabayeva won her tough quarter-final by split decision and she has the chance to win the event at the second time.  

Altogether 352 boxers from 21 nations are attending in the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships in Amman. The number of the junior and youth male boxers are over 120-120 which is much higher than in the previous 2021 edition and the girls weight classes are also more crowded in Jordan’s capital.

India, Iran, Iraq, host Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Yemen sent their best talents to the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships.

The finals are scheduled to be held in March 13 and 14 after the rest in the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships. Impressive number of 51 female and male champions will be crowned in the competition, 26 junior boxers and 25 youth athletes. Boxers who were born in 2004 and in 2005 will be eligible to attend in the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships. The younger talents from the 2006 and 2007 age groups can compete in the junior part of the championships in Jordan.

Tokhirova and Tokubay are the first female junior winners in Amman

Uzbekistan’s new Junior National Champion at the pinweight (46kg), Jasmin Tokhirova caused sensations in her homeland and she tried to be smarter than Mongolia’s Enkhamgalan in the opening bout of the day. Tokhirova proved her talent and also her strength in the third round therefore she advanced to the next stage of the championship. Kazakhstan’s Karina Tokubay had easier start in the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships, the 15-year-old talent stopped Jordan’s Ragad Abushairah at the flyweight (50kg).

India and Uzbekistan won the next female contests in Amman

India is one of the best nations in the world in women’s boxing, their junior talents are also experienced and strong boxers. India’s first female boxer in action was Yakshika who met with Nepal’s best hope in this age group, Swastika Tiruwa who competed in the last Dubai 2021 edition too. The Nepali boxer was highly competitive in their meeting but Yakshika had the experience to handle all of the tactical issues today. Following their light bantamweight (52kg) bout, Uzbekistan’s Uzukjamol Yunusova who stopped her Jordanian opponent, Mays Alreem Abukhadijah at the preliminary of the bantamweight (54kg).

Kazakhstan’s Aruzhan Zhangabayeva remained her chance alive to defend her throne

Kazakhstan’s Aruzhan Zhangabayeva achieved gold medal in the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships and she remained at the welterweight (66kg) after six months. The Kazakh talent met with India’s Tamanna and attacked from the first seconds while her smaller rival used a tactic based on her speed. The Kazakh southpaw did not use her longer reach well but her fighting skills were enough to take the lead on the scorecards after two rounds. Zhangabayeva won their exciting contest by split decision and she remained her chance alive to defend her Asian title.  

Kudratov is Uzbekistan’s first male junior winner on Day3

Uzbekistan’s Khojiakbar Kudratov is a new addition to their junior national team but he had excellent technical skills in the first round of the light welterweight (63kg). He had huge motivation against Tajikistan’s Usmonshekh Usmonov and dictated the tempo which was approved by his neighbouring opponent. Usmonov has excellent physical skills and he landed a few effective punches too therefore Kudratov had to increase his rhythm. The Uzbek boxer is not enough experienced in the junior international stage yet but he had the technical abilities to win their bout in Amman.

Akhmet Ussen bowed out a top quality Indian opponent

Kazakhstan’s Akhmet Ussen won his first preliminary contest in Amman but he could expect a hard quarter-final against India’s Harish Saini who had the speed and the strength to be competitive in the bout. Both boxers gave in everything already in the first round of the light welterweight (63kg) bout and landed high number of clear shots. Saini caught his Kazakh opponent with a powerful hook in the end of the first round but Ussen replied immediately. The Kazakh pride was better in the second round but Saini did not give up and mobilized all of his remaining power but Ussen secured the guaranteed medal. Ussen will be meeting in the semi-finals with Kyrgyzstan’s Ramzan Kadyrov who stopped Kuwait’s Shehab Bader.

Mousavi and Dilolov won their contests at the welterweight

Thailand sent a strong junior male team to the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships and their boxers proved perfect performance on Day1. Their Phuthanet Aiamram used an aggressive style of boxing against Iran’s Alireza Mousavi but his defence was not well-organized today. The Iranian welterweight (66kg) boxer counter-attacked the Thai efforts successfully in the first and second rounds and won the bout today. In the second bout of this weight class, Uzbekistan’s Sardor Dilolov had to do his very best against Kyrgyzstan’s Abdumalik Ismarov to win the contest. Dilolov moved up three weight categories in the recent one year but he had the speed to beat the talented Kyrgyz.

Uzbekistan and Syria won guaranteed medals at the light middleweight

Uzbekistan’s Djafarbek Shakhbazov had to meet already with his main rival, Kazakhstan’s Damir Sineyev in the quarter-finals of the light middleweight (70kg) but he managed to win their tough contest in Amman. Their meeting was a final-level contest and the young Uzbek dictated the crucial tempo to eliminate Sineyev in a remarkable battle. Syria’s Ali Sheer Khalaf is a new junior national team member but he used his left-handed jabs effectively against Iraq’s Sadeq Hayder Zghair Al-Saedi in the next contest of this weight category. The Syrian boxer fought patiently in the last round and he won an important quarter-final earning a guaranteed medal in Amman.

Jordan’s Ibrahim Faris stopped his Kyrgyz rival

Jordan’s first junior male boxer in action on Day3 was Ibrahim Faris who had the strong attitude to land tough shots in the first round when he met with Kyrgyzstan’s Sapat Toktonazarov at the light middleweight (70kg). The local boy caught his Kyrgyz rival with enormous shots in the second round which increased his motivation to finish the contest before the last period. Faris moved forward and after his strong jabs the Irish referee stopped their bout delighting the local crow. The Jordanian talent will be meeting in the semi-finals with India’s Jackson Singh Laishram who had energetic attacks against Iran’s Amir Mohammad Khazaeipour.

India and Kyrgyzstan won key contests at the middleweight

The first male junior middleweight (75kg) contest was held between India’s Dev Partap Singh and Jordan’s Abdel Hakeem Jaradat. Both boxers have been counted by the referee in the first round following their impressive exchanges. Their contest was a real show and the strong promotion of our sport in the capital city of Jordan where the fans love boxing. The final verdict was unanimous decision in the favour of the Indian boxer but Jaradat also fought until his last drop of power. Kyrgyzstan’s Mukhammadaziz Zakirov achieved bronze medal in the 2021 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships and he was too strong for Tajikistan’s Azam Fozilov which means he can box for the final with the Indian. 

Jordan, Uzbekistan and India won the heavyweight quarter-finals

Jordan’s Saif-Adden Harb is the host nation’s junior heavyweight (+80kg) boxer who had massive height and weight advantages in the quarter-final against United Arab Emirates’ Ahmed Al-Atas. Harb landed the stronger shots from long range and following the second standing count, the referee stopped the bout. Uzbekistan’s Ozodbek Aliyev won the next quarter-final contest in the heaviest junior weight class, he defeated Iran’s Amir Esmaeili Vandaei with strong performance. In the last bout of the whole competition day, India’s Gaurav Ganpat Mhaske defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Ermek Raiymkulov following his opponent injured in the third round.
