Kazakhstan’s weak point was the Lightweight class (60 kg) in the recent years and the country could not select top boxer in the second Olympic category. The talented boxer defeated Rimma Volosenko in the final while national team members Zarina Tsoloyeva and Firuza Sharipova bagged only bronze medals.
Actual ASBC Asian Women’s Champion Dariga Shakimova of Almaty is a big favourite for the quota in the upcoming Qualifiers therefore her success at the Middleweight class (75 kg) was an expected result in the Kazakhstan Women’s National Championships. Her final opponent was Fariza Shaltay who moved down one weight class but could not stop Shakimova’s attacks in Astana. Saniya Sultankyzy of Astana defeated veteran Oksana Koroleva in the final of the Featherweight class (57 kg) and regained her place in the national squad.
Defending National Champion Madina Nurshayeva defeated the surprise of the event Aliya Abdraimova of Astana in the final of the Light Welterweight class (64 kg) which means she is also near to box at the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships on home soil. Talented Valentina Khalzova of Astana was too strong for experienced Zura Khusainova who eliminated London 2012 Olympian Saida Khasenova in the first round of the Welterweight class (69 kg) in the national event.
