Kazakhstan topped the elite medal table with five gold medals at the 10th Nations Women’s Cup
The second part of the finals and the specific Box-offs were on the schedule of the sixth and last competition day at the new 10th edition of the Nations Women’s Cup in Sombor, Serbia. Kazakhstan bagged three gold medals in the first half of the finals which were continued by Vladislava Kukhta and Rimma Volosenko. Kazakhstan became the best elite team with five gold medals in the Nations Women’s Cup.
The Nations Women’s Cup was the first international tournament in 2021 where one of our Asian boxing powerhouses, Kazakhstan returned to with their best women boxers and impressive results. The Nations Women’s Cup is a strong international female competition where the schoolgirls, junior, youth and elite boxers all can attend in Sombor.
The 10th edition of the Nations Women’s Cup was the first challenge for the girls in all age groups in the new year where several of the top nations including Russia, Turkey, Morocco, Czech Republic, Croatia, Serbia and Belarus were also among the participating countries besides to Kazakhstan. The Nations Women’s Cup was a preparation event before the next Olympic Boxing Qualifying Events.
Kazakhstan’s Vladislava Kukhta collected international experiences as a youth boxer in 2016 and in 2017 and following three years of hard work among the elite boxers, she reached the top of the featherweight (57kg) at their 2020 National Championships. The 21-year-old boxer had hard road to the finals of the Nations Women’s Cup but she surprised her opponents with developments in speed. Kukhta met in the final with Turkey’s Aycan Guldagi and used smart boxing to beat her opponent in the title contest.
Kazakhstan’s next finalist was Rimma Volosenko who won several international tournaments in the recent years in Russia, in Hungary, and other countries. She will be turning to 29 this year and has got the experiences to qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games through the World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event. Volosenko controlled all of her contests in the Nations Women’s Cup including her final against Czech Republic’s newcomer Lenka Volejnikova. The Kazakh boxer was more experienced, powerful and dominated the final from the first seconds in Sombor.
Kazakhstan’s Valentina Khalzova was AIBA Women’s World Champion in 2016 and she returned after a break with top performance. The 24-year-old boxer was defeated by Turkey’s reigning AIBA Women’s World Champion Busenaz Surmeneli in a superb semi-final bout at the welterweight (69kg) in Sombor but she had the right to attend in the last competition day in a Box-off. Khalzova defeated Czech Republic’s veteran Martina Schmoranzova and closed the Nations Women’s Cup with a triumph.
