Kazakhstan dominates Galym Zharylgapov joust

Host country Kazakhstan lorded over five other participating nations in the 38th Galym Zharylgapov Memorial Tournament held recently in Karagandy.

The Kazakh boxers seized 10 out of the 17 titles, winning all five gold medals in the women’s category while also claiming five in the men’s side.

The first woman winner was the 18-year-old Gulnaz Buribayeva who has just joined to the elite events following her youth successes.

The second female winner was another teenage talent from the host city’s team, Gulnar Turapbay who defeated Ayaulym Kenzhekhanova at the light flyweight (50kg). 

Anar Tursynbek continued the winning path of the teenage talents in the women’s part of the Galym Zharylgapov Memorial Tournament.

ASBC Asian youth champion Kamila Bazhbenova took down compatriot Aray Musina in the women’s light heavyweight (80kg) final to snag her first elite title.

Youth World Championships 2021 bronze medalist Zhasmin Kizatova was also one of the remarkable champions in the tilt, proving too strong in the women’s light middleweight (70kg) class.

Azerbaijan’s Hasan Malikov defeated Tajikistan’s Usmonjon Mirzoyev and Kyrgyzstan’s Zhenish Uldatov earning the first male title at the Zharylgapov Memorial Tournament.

His teammate, the former Youth Olympian Masud Yusifzada had ten years of international experiences to beat Kazakhstan’s local boy, Zhandaulet Sarsenbayev in the final of the men’s bantamweight (54kg).

Meanwhile, ex-European youth titlist Mahammad Abdullayev led Azerbaijan’s five gold medal haul while Cuba captured the three remaining golds in the men’s division.

Talgat Syrymbetov, a former Youth World Boxing Championships competitor earned the first male title for Kazakhstan in Karagandy. The 21-year-old boxer defeated his younger rivals such as Almat Abduali and Ruslan Kuzeubayev to get the title of the lightweight (60kg).

Cambodia’s Abdulla Rajabov was one of the stars at the heavyweight (92kg) and the 20-year-old boxer defeated two top Kazakh boxers during his road to the finals. The ex-Uzbek boxer faced the 19-year-old Madi Amirov of Almaty in the title bout and the local teenager won their exciting final in Karagandy.

Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan were the other federations that joined the traditional tournament where a total of 139 pugs showcased their wares.
