Kanto’s team, the Komazawa won the finals at the Japanese University Boxing Championships

The finals of the 78th edition of the Japan University National Boxing Championships were finished in Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture and the Komazawa University became the overall winner of the season.

The Komazawa University, the winner of the Kanto University Boxing League, annihilated the Kansai League’s gold medallist squad, the Osaka University of Commerce, winning the team final 10:1.

Following Kanto’s representative, the Toyo University’s success in 2023, the Komazawa University returned to the top after a short break. One of the elite national coaches, Mr. Yuji Oyamada supported the success of the Komazawa University.

The East part of Japan, the Kanto University Boxing League had different divisions, the male teams can fight from the minimumweight up to the middleweight. The league was sponsored by the Kanto Boxing Federation and organized all of the division matches.

The winner of the West part, the Kansai Boxing League was the Osaka University of Commerce this year and the two champions met each other for a respective final in the city of Mito, in the Ibaraki Prefecture.

Komazawa’s Kanaya Narutome was too smart for Osaka’s Tsuji Nagahisa at the men’s minimumweight and he won the first contest of the University National Championships.

Komazawa’s Sei Oka won the featherweight (57kg) battle against Osaka’s Masanobu Takaoka and he needed only two and half minutes to stop his rival in their meeting.

Komazawa’s best boxer Shota Nakayama impressed against Ren Shibata at the lightweight (60kg) and all of the five judges favoured him in this contest. Sei Hiraken won the second bout in this weight class against Aito Tsuji and the Komazawa University had the advantage of 7:0 after seven bouts.

Daigoro Marumoto was the Osaka’s lone winner in the university final, he triumphed over Kudo Tachikawa at the light welterweight. Maki Kawakami dominated his contest against Akihiro Furusawa at the welterweight and the referee stopped their unequal bout.

Komazawa’s Shun Kirikoshi was also too strong for Daisho Nimiya at the light middleweight while Haruhito Araki stopped Riku Kawamura at the middleweight, finalizing the 10:1 results for their team.

The All Japan National Boxing Championships will be one of the next competitions in the country which will host the upcoming Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya in 2026.
