Japan named Tanaka, Narimatsu and Moriwaki as their host country places for the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games

Japan will be hosting the Tokyo Olympic Games which was officially postponed and re-scheduled to a new date yesterday. The Tokyo Olympic Games will be held from July 23 until August 8 in 2021 therefore all of the qualified boxers knew their duties and can start a long preparation for the event. Japan named their host country quota places which means Ryomei Tanaka, Daisuke Narimatsu and Yuito Moriwaki joined to their Olympic team.

The Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event was held in Amman, Jordan on March 2-11 where 57 Asians earned their quota places for the Tokyo Olympic Games. Among them three of the Japanese boxers including two women have qualified for the re-scheduled Tokyo Olympic Games.

ASBC Asian Boxing Championships silver medallist Sewon Okazawa, AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Tsukimi Namiki and two-time AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Sena Irie qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games through the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event. All of the three Japanese boxers defeated some of the stars during their road to the Olympic quotas in Amman.

The selection committee of the Japanese Boxing Federation decided their three new host country places for the Olympic Games. Their male flyweight (52kg) Ryomei Tanaka was one of the boxers who have been selected to attend in Tokyo. Tanaka was gold medallist at the Rio Olympic Games Test Event but he was not able to qualify for the main event in 2016 therefore the Tokyo tournament will be his first Olympics.

Japan’s most experienced team member Daisuke Narimatsu attended already in the 2012 Asian Olympic Boxing Qualification Event and qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The ASBC Asian Boxing Championships bronze medallist lightweight (63kg) boxer is already 31 but he has got the strong experiences to achieve good results in the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games.

Yuito Moriwaki joined to the national elite team in Japan two years ago and claimed the gold medal at the middleweight (75kg) of the Asian Games Test Event. Moriwaki attended in the recent editions of the ASBC Asian Boxing Championships and AIBA World Boxing Championships in 2019. Middleweight (75kg) boxer Moriwaki is famous of his powerful punches and he could be ready against top rivals at the Olympics next year.
